I think I'd like to see Weal send Read to the press box next year, Cousins replace VDV and I guess Vecchione and Weise battle it out for starts. Where that leaves Lindbolm I'm not sure. And who knows with Laughton anymore.

Here's the thing, as far as I'm concerned: What I want to see is someone like Read not get the "veteran's exemption" during camp/preseason, where if the production isn't there, he gets the benefit of the doubt over a Weal.

When you miss the playoffs, I would hope that we aren't reading too many stories and posts about how some veterans can't be expected to dial it up in the preseason -- hell, as far as I'm concerned, some of these guys didn't exactly dial it up in-season when it mattered

He's...approaching bust territory, if not already there. Sucks but it happens.

The most realistic thing I see coming out of him is a solid PKer and 30 pt fringe 3rd liner which would actually be nice on this team. The PK part anyway

No question. I really like his game. Calm and under control plus a wonderful 2nd period by him understanding when to jump up

Absolutely. Not too late, but sometimes guys aren't gonna make it. Just isn't one of those things that will ever change

Absolutely.

And I just realized I left a name off that list to consider as well. Raffl.

Man, Hextall has some decisions to make this offseason. He needs to shed a forward or two regardless of who Vegas takes.

Agreed. Kind of bummed looking back at that draft and seeing some guys selected after him now making names for themselves in this league. But it is what it is. Hopefully he can make the transition to the NHL as something at some point.

Stings a touch knowing he was 1st rounder, that's the thing Especially on this team starving of forwards.

Echo the sentiment that Hagg really does a nice job of jumping in the play in the offensive zone. Pretty active stick in the defensive zone also.

If he carries this level of play over into the preseason there is no way he isn't on the opening night roster. Very solid game he's playing.

How would John Carlsson look on this blue line today, if you want to go down the road of draft day blunders?

That turned out horrifically, and it's kinda ancient history by now, but at the same time, I understood exactly what Homer was trying to do

The way Laviolette's system works, a right-handed defender who could skate was something they wanted. They tried with Schenn, they tried with Eminger. Those guys were both first-rounders and had physical tools. Unfortunate that they just couldn't get the job done

poop happens. That's what a draft is. I'm not saying OH WE SHOULDA PICKED ________ because that's just not how you should be looking at past picks.

What I am saying is the Flyers viewed Laughton as the best on their board and took a shot on him. It didn't work out and that's unfortunate. Darn.
