I think they're about the same. Andersen is older, but only has ~1,500 more minutes than Lehner.

I liked Biron too but I didn't see enough of him with the Sabres to have an opinion on his time here
- chilliard77

I grew up watching Hasek and the transition to Biron. I even remember Ryan Miller's first game (he let in like 5 goals) and I thought "Damn, he's gonna be good."

So I should have actually been much harder on and biased toward Biron, but I (frank)ing loved him. The guy played well beyond his level on several bad Sabres teams. I was one of the few who wanted to trade Miller for a King's Ransom instead of Biron.

What did we actually get out of Miller? 1 Vezina/President's season and if you're American, a silver (second place) medal on one of the softest goals ever scored. Also, at least 1 soft goal, glove-side, per game. He was the king of the 59 minute shutout.

Miller was a good, sometimes great goalie. Biron was also a good, sometimes great goalie. It's a wash, to me. When Miller had the broken finger that one season, Biron was possibly the best goalie in the league during that stretch. I think the conclusion is that the team would have been good regardless of goaltending during the Briere/Drury years.

Afinogenov and Biron are my all-time favorite Sabres, so maybe I'm being kind of a homer but Miller's worth is over-valued while Biron's is under-valued by Sabres fans.

What? Look at the goalies in the playoffs.

Random group of guys who have come from nowhere besides a few.

You build your team first, then add a goalie. Not the reverse

I feel like a lot of Sabres fans under appreciate Miller. That Crosby goal killed my soul but he was still a great goalie

I don't know about trading Miller over Biron, but the part about Miller letting in soft goals toward the ends of the game, spot on. The only reason we didn't have a problem with it 05-07 was because that team could come back from ANYTHING it seemed and typically Miller got a ton of goal support. Those teams hung him out to dry on odd man rushes as well because of their style. But it was problematic when the soft goals continued on past that style.

That stretch for Biron, he was lights out. Then he got injured and Mika Norenen had to step in and had a Hasek like save where he just swung his leg up in the air. That was hilarious.

I know what your point was. You listed backup goalies that have equal or better #'s than the starters.

Difference is those teams developed their starters, not paid an arm for them

But in typical Miller fashion the soft goal broke the team's back.

He reminded me of a slightly better under pressure guy than Tony Romo.

He didn't quite fold like a lawn chair, maybe more like a futon. It took more effort but eventually, it folds.

No, that's was just a retort to your post. My point is Lehner is better, in some cases, much better than what he's given credit for.

People are caught up in what we paid for him. And that definitely matters, but to not give a guy credit who has done nothing but post good numbers since he's been here just because a GM "overpaid" for him is asinine. He had nothing to do with it.

Ew, bare hands? I'm not a barbarian. I use gloves, man.

Edit: I use gloves to clean my cats litter box. If I were to stick a finger up my butt, I'd probably wear 3 gloves and then stick my hand in acid afterward.
