I don't even know what is being argued about anymore
- chilliard77

My point is that some people can't see the forest for the trees because of their hate for trading a precious(late) first round pick for an above average goalie. And another team that trades a (bit later) 1st and a 2nd round pick for a goalie with the same overall numbers is somehow topnotch, and their goalie is amazing and ours is a bum.

Yeah, and it was also a great play by Sam to get him the puck too. Plus 30 seconds to go in a decided game is a bit different than 3 minutes into a 0-0 game.

Come on..... the point man passed into Sams skate and Eichel was just skating by himself. Great play is a little much

Not a bad point
- chilliard77

It's actually one that Murray cited as to why he targeted Lehner. The goalie would still be under team control at the end of his contract.

If I'm not mistaken the other goalies traded for about that time, wouldn't be.

That does raise the value a tad.

People tend to forget that when comparing the trade. That gets left off.

People can hate on Miller all they want but he was awesome here imo

Fun fact: Even before his Vancouver contract, his and Biron's numbers are pretty much identical.

Even their best seasons:

Buffalo Sabres NHL 72 31 28 10 4085 151 4 2.22 .915

Buffalo Sabres NHL 69 41 18 8 4047 150 5 2.22 .929

Guess which is which? One played on a bad team, the other on a stacked team. Honestly, Biron's best season was on a Sabres team that's almost identical to this season's team. One guy with just under a .ppg and a bunch of middling stats and 20 goals scorers sprinkled throughout and a questionable defense.

Career stats:

NHL totals 508 230 191 25 28,612 1247 28 2.62 .910

NHL totals 655 340 233 68 38,363 1660 36 2.60 .915

I liked Biron too but I didn't see enough of him with the Sabres to have an opinion on his time here

That he's young? Who cares though? I'd rather have had an 18 year old top 6 forward

Grubauer, Darling, Raanta, Kinkaid, Vasilevsky, Reimer. All better. Chad Johnson is equal. Your move.

I think they're about the same. Andersen is older, but only has ~1,500 more minutes than Lehner.

Holtby- Drafted in the 3rd
Crawford- 2nd rounder
Lundqvist - Late rounder
Luongo- traded for nothing
Schneider- Cost a top 10 pick
Elliott - Cost a 2nd and conditional

Of all these goalies, who's on the worst team?

But you're acting like getting an 18 year old top 6 forward was a given. It's not. We traded the CHANCE of a top 6 forward for a CHANCE at starting goalie, a guy that I feel, proved he's capable.

The guy making the deal felt like it was worth it and that's all that matters.

Lehner is always going to be judged by what was given up for him, I get it to a point. But we need to stop beating a dead......

we can't even call the damn thing dead it's a pulpy dead glob of meat that used to be a horse.

We all get it, there is a group of people here that HATE the fact we had to give up what we did.

Sometimes I feel Lehner could cure cancer, don the pads, and let one lousy goal in and everyone would STILL be all over him.

Sheesh, he did just fine this year. And before you cite "his backup has better numbers" let's be honest, his back up has PROVEN time and again he can't play long stretches without imploding. His success is showing he's right where he belongs, on the bench.

Rant over.

Bobrovsky, Holtby, Price, Gibson, Dubnyk, Murray, Lehner, Talbot, Crawford, Andersen.

Top 10 starting goalies SV%. I just can't quite put my finger on it, but Lehner, while being part of that group, is somehow different from the others... I got it! All those other guys are in the playoffs!
