wow Ilkka Sinisalo died
- nastyflyergirl

Oh no, that sucks. He can't be over 55

Edit: what happened? Was he ill?
He was one of my faves from back in the 80s, smooth skater, smart and highly skilled. Poor guy was always getting injured.

You and I haven't had conversations dealing with world economics. If we had you would know how orwellian I am.

Nahh brah.

Re-do the system. Max salary for careers. Anything else goes into the pot to improve society as a whole.

F the current system so to speak.

I'm sorry if I keep being an a $$hole, but you work in Healthcare correct? I work in the industrial/engineering sector. For arguments sake where do I fit in your societal structure?

Apparently, he had been battling cancer.

One of the most underrated guys on those great teams from the '80s. I vaguely remember that he scored his first NHL goal on a penalty shot (which was seemingly more rare back then....like, unicorn rare).

Last I looked these players get paid a poop ton of money. I don't recall indentured servants getting paid at all.
- MBFlyerfan

An indentured servant or indentured labor is an employee (indenturee) within a system of unfree labor who is bound by a contract (indenture) to work for a particular employer for a fixed period of time. The employer is often permitted to assign the labor of an indenturee to a third party. Indenturees usually enter into an indenture for a specific payment or other benefit or to meet a legal obligation, such as debt bondage. Upon completion of the contract, indentured servants were granted freedom or occasionally plots of land. In many countries, systems of indentured labor have been outlawed.

Yup, I remember that too. He also scored some big playoff goals including an OT game winner or 2.

I tried to find a highlight or two on YouTube and all I could really find was an old highlight package from a game in 1982 against Hartford.

That means this was an "All Cooperall" game.

It shows Sinisalo rocketing home a shot from just inside the blue line.

If it were during the offseason sure. But these players have contracts to play for their respective teams. And in any other profession there is no way a company would allow people to leave their job so they could go perform their job for free somewhere else. ESPECIALLY if they had to shut down their whole business to do it.
- MBFlyerfan

Employees have rights. They can take time to vote, vacation, sickness etc. Players aren't contracted to chain themselves to a wall, drool and not have feelings. If the players vote to play, two weeks off doesn't hurt the NHL at all.

So move hockey to the summer Olympics. Nobody will care then because it won't impact the NHL season.

Meh, is what it is.

I got a chuckle when Tanner told me that nationalism was a dangerous and outdated concept. That we should all embrace a 'one country' notion for the world. I am sure that all those folks with their jobs outsourced, or wages kept stagnant will be so happy by that. What a fool.

At the end of the day, I like hockey. I like the game more than I like the Flyers. The world juniors as an example, was some of the most fun time I have had watching the game itself. NHL fails to realise that while they do have the best collection of talent on earth, there are fans around the globe. Not giving those fans the chance to see 'the best of the best' up against eachother is quite predictable. Although I guess the argument could be made for the World Cup.

- flyer_nutter

It's criminal that the best of the best doesn't take part in the Olympics. Some NHL players will leave the NHL over stuff like this nonsense.

Sorry BiggE, but I dislike the way the NHL has handled this whole thing and made a parallel point that that is how they are treating their players. I think any of us if we could play at that level would probably tell the NHL to stick it if we had the chance to go play in the Olympics. And when on the day you announce this, one of your biggest stars says that they are still going, you know the league and players are light years apart on how things are run.

I will raise an honorary toast to you tonight with some Macallan 15 for my violation of etiquette

How much of your salary are you willing to donate to improve society as a whole? Do you know this already exists? It's called taxes.
