It's such a crock that the Leafs are nothing without Matthews, he definitely makes them better but, he's involved in around 27% of their offence this year. McDavid is involved in 40.6% of the Oilers offence.

Kadri is a 31 goal 60 point second line center, Bozak is a 17 goal 52 point third line center. Not to mention they have Marner, who's 19 with 61 points and Nylander, who's 20 with 60 points on the wings.

JVR also has 60 points, that's five players with 60 points or better. The Leafs are actually a deeper team than Edmonton is. I hate defending them but it's reality.

Looking like the game vs. Arizona could go a long ways... Probably won't want to watch that game

I was saying what hard stance i would take lol
IMO no player gets a free pass after their expiry date.
In Daniels case he is nearing being washed up if not already.
He could have a renaissance season next year but i'm not holding my breath.
The twins best hope is a new coach & idk if its even WD that it is the problem.

- Nighthawk

The twins best hope is to go to another team and be 3rd line 2nd pp unit guys

Much like the iginla bandaid in cgy they need to just go...everything still goes through them and they aren't that good anymore

Their lack of leadership and example here is getting a tad annoying. It's pretty clear they have tossed in the towel for the season and are looking to next year.

I'm sure we are going to hear the Burrows thing from the Sedins where they are going to work 'extra hard' in the off season to get back to contention but realistically...they are done.

They should be split up next year ...all year ...I know it won't happen but that would be what's best if they remain Canucks

not a bad plan there ....dont want hitch long term but he's so good at teaching the game. Perhaps with green as a student it makes more sense.

i sure hope youre wrong.... But suspect youre not. Praying JV works out for us soon. Perhaps some time with JB telling him what he saw in him will make a difference
- SMBDragon

I have no doubt JV will be an NHLer. But it's become a much longer project than first anticipated. Ferraro called him a more physical Hansen. People were outraged. Now, we'd take that in a heartbeat. Basically if he ends up a 3rd liner that could move up and down the line, pot 15 goals (maybe 1 year pot 25 career high) we'd jump all over that.

throw away the fact he was 6th overall, we still desperately need this type of player. They aren't giving up on him. He will see the NHL next year, whether that means he has a good summer, then camp, or is a call up. I like the looks of MacEwen. Should be brought along slowly. We will be more invested in the Comets in the coming years than the Canucks.

JV won't amount to anything... he'll finish his career in the AHL or Europe... forget about that guy turning into anything... Kassian will have a better career than him...
- kaptaan

JV will be no more than a 2nd/3rd line winger.

He will play in the NHL though, that I will put money on.

just one more year. just one more year. their lack of speed has affected their passing as well. A lot more turnovers. It's sad.

A trade of a Dman for a top 6 is a must. It's almost certain Edler will be moved. When? I say no earlier than next TDL. So, do u trade h Tanev and then Edler in same calendar year? hmmm. Or Hutton and Edler.

Whoever u get the most back for perhaps (between Hutton / Tanev).

the female doging over the Sedins is just hilarious.

This is a bad team, the twins are being exposed for their age because up until recently they have been the target of the oppositions best players. Horvat has gone now 14 games without a goal, why? Because teams have shifted their attention to him. There is very little depth on this team that good teams have to worry about.

If Daniel was shooting his career average 11%, he would be sitting on 23 goals, best on the team. He hasnt had a shooting % this bad since the seasons following the Keith elbow.

Yes the Sedins are in the decline, but this is overly dramatic that we should buy out one, trade one, expose to Vegas, or whatever. The team has literally zero depth to force any major shakeups. Megna was playing top 6 for lack of any better options, not because anyone thinks he is good (thus his $675k payday), thats the kind of poopty depth the team has been dealing with

I don't want them around any more because I just want change, but, the problems with the team are much much deeper than Henrik and Daniel. Sure they eat a ton of minutes but there's no one within the organization to replace them at this point.

Signing UFA's is an idea but that's a two-way street, UFA's have to want to come to one of the worst positioned teams in the league.

JV will score 50 next year and Bo will spend the year in Utica

Those are two things that are more likely to happen than just one of the Sedins getting bought out

- Redmile247

When the Flames relocate are you more likely to cheer for the Quebec City Flames or the Seattle Flames?

I think it all depends on who you have to start next year ...if you trade one before the start of the year then sign a free agent then I could see a scenario where both are moved

That typically involves overpayment.

I'm fine with that really short term, like 1 or 2 year deals with no NTC/NMC. Just enough guys that you can flip at a deadline, retain salary and get a decent return.

In other words, not likely to happen.

I agree, I am looking forward to the new era where this becomes the next generation's team but its not something we can rush. Eliminating the twins wont guarantee Goldobin, Virtanen or Boeser any more icetime or success. The twins best asset to the club is letting these kids come along slowly and not forced to face top players every minute of every game. The succession plan is underway and itll happen naturally

My problem is we know we are going to be bad but the Canucks because of their loyalty are saying "We will begin after next year"

We have to go through an extra year just so we can be nice guys

Fair enough but it's not just loyalty on Linden's part, IMO, they also have rock solid NMC deals which makes it difficult to move them. Not to mention they probably want to stay together, which is a difficult task as well.
