it's a no-brainer to protect the younger player with much higher upside.

cool thanks I'll relay it to the lady

any chance they re-sign Markov?

- Brooks_Light

Everyone would be surprised if they don't. The guy's been great all season long and could be a great mentor for Sergachev and Juulsen in the next few years.

I agree but some of his play this season has made it more difficult to say 'much higher upside'

Ideally, he'd be packaged for a top 6 forward but it's probably unlikely it'll happen (trades are hard...)

Ya I would give him a couple years. I'd like to see him retire with them.

So Benn would be a safe bet to expose?
- Pie

I think Benn will be exposed instead of Beaulieu if both are still with the team.

Beaulieu, while inconsistant, is a former first round pick from the team and has a higher potential than Benn, who's a reliable bottom pairing defenseman who will become a UFA in a year.

yeah agree. i'm hoping that a full season of Claude Julien brings out the best in him. also like mAdam Stench mentioned, with the way the draft is setup, there are going to be some solid options available for Vegas. i would say Benn is only 50-50 on getting selected.

Which isn't that bad. I wonder how Redmond is doing. He had some decent games with them before his injury.

i worry about anything more than 1 year for Markov... at his age, his game could easily drop off a cliff and you're stuck with another Plekanec situation where what is now a depth player eats up $6 million.

Still, not a lot of (almost) 30 pts young defensemen around the league.

If you don't give Markov 2 years, theres chances he plays elsewhere.

Give him 2 years @ 5M per year. Fair for both sides.

I don't disagree. He's tied for 57th in pts and is 110th in TOI.

He's improved every year he's played in the NHL.

He's dumb as hell, which makes his progression slow, but he's an asset worth keeping.

Or trading....

Meh, At this point in his career I really doubt that.

Definetly, and it's not like Habs have a lot of great skating defensemen.

He was awesome this year. An argument could be made that the team would miss him more than anyone not named Price or Radulov

distantly behind, everyone is, but it seems to me that the O drops off pretty significantly without him.
