Bill, do you think Schultz is retiring or does he plan to try to sign on elsewhere? - johndewar
I don't think he will have any offers. Although I have not asked him about it, I think he may just stay in this area for family reasons if there are no offers for next season. Part of the reason he signed a relatively inexpensive multi-year deal during his bounceback season his first year herre was because he'd been moving around several times (after being in Minnesota for so long) in a short period of time and his wife and kids liked it here.

Hey Dillweed,
Give us one example of a Flyers throwing a retaliatory hit on an unsuspecting player? Living and dying by the sword (your words) would only make sense if Gudas had been legally hit and injured. - jak521

Enjoy.
Could you be more of a complete homer not to think your team has done that? They're 6th in the league in PIMs, but I'm sure they're all bad calls to you.
I can't believe you actual think there is a team in team in the league that hasn't thrown a hit like that this season... and it would be the Flyers. Hilarious.
And Dillweed? Thanks for the 70's flashback or did you just catch up to that? |

I think Prout's intent was to fight him (he said so) but Gudas with his head down was to easy a target. The thing is Radko's hit was legal but it shouldn't surprise anyone that there was a retaliation. The retaliation crossed the line and penalties and suspension were issued... and warranted.
In the next sequence Palmeri got run with a late hit which was likely retaliatory as well. Not surprising.
All I'm saying is if you play the game this way this is what happens. We all know it. So I'm just surprised to see so many folks (particularly Flyer fans who generally appreciate the rougher brand of hockey) act indignant about it.
Ok - let's try this with the shoe on the other foot... [insert your favorite Devil here] makes a hard, but clean hit which leaves Jake Voracek dazed and confused for a few seconds. Then, a few seconds later, Dale Weise retaliates, making a blindside hit on said Devil, likely concussing him and knocking him out of the game. Would you not be upset at Weise?
It sounds like you're trying to say that appreciating a good, hard hit is inconsistent with complaining about a cheap shot... and I don't get that logic. If Prout had challenged Gudas to a fight, I think most of us here on the Flyers page would have understood and respected it... but cheap shots which injure players (including those perpetrated by Flyers) don't earn that much respect around here, and nor should they. |

I'm fine with the gudas hit....I'm fine with Prout answering and knowing his role and I'm fine with Simmonds taking the challenge from Prout, who to me, is one of the top fighter in the league. Two games ...kinda has to be in my book...but that's Prout's job. Maybe he could have just challenged him to a fight....but the game moves at a little quicker pace then that....To bad Prout or Gudas aren't in tonight. - landros 2
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but has anyone said the possibility of Gudas being shaken up from his initial hit? Whether he wasn't interested in fighting or just simply had his head down, Gudas was heading straight to the bench for the line change and that seemed to be his only focus. |

From my office window, I can even see the Septa bus drivers driving better and I hear that Schuylkill Expressway traffic is much better since Vandevelde has been scratched. - johndewar
CV is what he is ....At this point I would rather watch a kid who hopefully is part of the future rather then CV. CV isn't the reason this team failed....only part of it ...along with about 18 others in that dressing room.

Prout went out of his way to deliver a hit that had nothing to do with the flow of the game. Puck was on the other side of the rink. Not to mention Gudas wasn't even looking. Gudas does not play that way.
Gudas will hit you hard but rarely does he cross the line. When he does cross the line the hit is a miscalculation during the normal flow of the game. Prout's hit was nonsense. |

Way too much was made of Chris Vandevelde, though. Entirely too much. |

He represents the main problem for the big club....lack of talent top to bottom.
I am sure he is a good guy and teammate. He is just not very good at hockey. |

My point was you can't act surprised there was retaliation for Radko's hit on Quenneville even thought it was clean. It was pretty violent and people respond to that. You can be as pissed about Prout's hit on Radko because it was dirty as poop. With the shoe on the other foot, I'd be pretty pissed also.
The original post I responded to said people need to stop retaliating for clean hits and that just doesn't seem realistic. These are heated rivalry games and it's going to happen. Legal hits can warrant a response. The problem here is the response was illegal and rather dangerous.

I don't think anyone was surprised Prout confronted Gudas. That would have been hockey 101.
My problem is Prout hit a defenseless player that did not have the puck and did not see him coming. |

Have you tried taking out that air filter to see if the car will work better?
Have you?
HAVE YOU?!!!!1
No? Well, then, that's your problem, pal. You clearly know nothing about cars. Change that air filter and you may breathe a little better while you're still stuck on the side of the road.
Problem solved.
You're welcome. |

I agree with your response. I was surprised gudas didn't think somebody was coming after that hit, but he also looked injured/tired, as he was skating off. |

Also Prout comes right from the bench. not where the actual game flow is and where players are. |

I agree. Gudas, if not hurt or something, should have expected something. Was gudas hit legal?. Ure it was but if a player runs over a flyer on the ice and Simmonds on the ice he will hunt that player down and ask no questions before engaging in a fight. |

The whole team has struggled but plugs like PEB and VandeVelde are an easy fix. Moving core players is a lot more difficult.
