You are fine with a talentless player being on the roster. I am not.

If you want to call that a "win" have at it homey.

- mickel25

Talentless players don't make it to the NHL. As I stated previously I'm okay with Vandevelde as a short term role player and understand why he has remained in the lineup..moving forward I'd like to see the Flyers upgrade their talent.

If you have an issue with that objective view point, I really don't care.

Wait I'm confused.

Since we always assume the following are true:

1.) The Flyers never make mistakes in terms of personnel decisions over the long-term.

2.) The amount of ice time a player receives is directly commensurate with their ability and value to the team.

Why is a player that has been consistently in the lineup over the last three seasons a healthy scratch? Obviously, because he was in the lineup for that long he is obviously a solid NHL player for the role he was playing. Did that suddenly change?

- StepfordSam

Yes. The coach is correct (because he never makes mistakes) that a player who has never played a single game of professional hockey is an upgrade over a veteran who was previously immune from being a healthy scratch due to his talent and role.

I swear you said this exact statement last year around this time when everyone discussed Vandevelde. My only point I will make: His role and term here should have been shorter.

Mike Milbury was a GM of an NHL team. Therefore, Mike Milbury always made the right decision.

It just wasn't the right decision for the team that employed him.

in other words, until tonight, Vandevelde wasn't even good enough to be scratched

Is Bustis Bustheim a bust? Only three other 2014 first rounders haven't played an NHL game yet.

Or better yet never had been on team in the first place. For the record I don't want to see Vandevelde as a regular in the lineup next season.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PHANTOMS LATE SEASON SURGE TO THE PLAYOFFS!?
- PhillySportsGuy

I would send Morin back down to play for the Phantoms tomorrow and if Manning is still out, call Morin back up Saturday.

No way. Once a player is recalled from the AHL, he is not allowed to be sent back to the AHL for the rest of the season. This can be found in the "The AHL Playoffs are Not as Good for Player Development as Three Meaningless NHL Regular Season Games" rulebook.

They do have some big games left...If they beat Hershey tomorrow they have it pretty much locked up (7 pt lead with 5 games left and a game in hand)

i can finally put the Morin Bus transmission into drive. it's been idling a long, long time. unfortunately, it's meaningless at this point. just like the VdV scratching.

Actually a team is limited to the amount of call ups they do after the trade deadline.

for the record, i'm glad the NHL isn't going to the olympics. the players are bummed, so that sucks for them. but i hate the interruption and distraction of it. as long as it doesn't lead to a lockout. which i now fully expect.

sooooo...i guess i'm not glad.

Nonsense.

Hakstol is scratching VdV because he has a long-term approach, and sitting a few games will make him better in the long run. Also, it's a message to the players that, if you don't perform well, you may get scratched after 79 games.
