hey guys longtime lurker here...enjoy the banter back & forth between the main cast (most of the time lol)

my 2cents on the state of the sabres:
No one is untouchable on this team besides eichel. even with the injuries this team did not produce to expectations that were set by both fans & management/coach

Risto, I believe has the tools to become a stud/elite/top10 (whatever you want to call it in this league) problem is there is no one on the roster who can show him the way. it seems he's head & shoulders above any D we have that he can't bounce ideas/analysis off anyone & get feedback. sure gorges is there but he's not the type of veteran that can fill that role & maybe there's a handful in the league that can fill the role but it's Murray's job to identify & pursue.

Reinhart looks noticeably disinterested & that looks like a coach/player divide. (noticed this way before the benching).

I like lehners fire, that being said he's gotta have a bridge contract (2yrs 7mill range). still not convinced he's the future but im pulling for him.

as much as this team needs goal scoring I'd shop kane in the summer & see what the market is...not comfortable giving him 5-6 years. if he starts next year on a 30 goal pace then consider a 5x6mill extension (condition that he signs by Jan 1st). if he doesn't sign im sure one bubble team will give up their 1st for him, just hope they don't make the playoffs.

let's have some serious competition to make up the bottom six next year. Bailey, Baptiste, fasching, erod, Larsson, girgs, smith, asplund, even nylander...spread the minutes around .12mins-19mins should be the ice time for all forwards. no one lower than 12, no higher than 19-20mins

Murray has to get rid of the deadweight on this team...period. You're the GM. 2 of 3 ennis, Moulson, bogo cannot be here next year (hopefully all 3). Murray is gonna have to have a great offseason to regain confidence from the fanbase

Fire byslma!! at this point it's clear it's not working. honestly it doesnt matter whos to blame. bring someone in who has an uptempo mindset & can work with a young roster. a Peter laviollete type...dudes fiery & Nashville is a fun to watch playoff team

I'll hang up & listen

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is a mystery to me.

Every time I've ever watched him he looks really good, yet is at 39 points in 78 games. He's good at both ends but man you need better production from a former #1

- sbroads24

agreed

every single time I watch him, I see a great 2 way game

I am shocked he is not at least a 60 point player right now

would of liked to see more bite than bark from Risto...instead of trying to shake loose the linesman. better off getting a 10 making the guy turtle. have to agree though, he seems to have carved out a role for himself in Toronto

ah, got it. I thought that talk a few days ago was about consumers.
Every once in a while, i'll find Molson or Labatts out here in California. More Molson, actually. Genny never, obviously.

What's worse ? Being a Sabre fan this year and having (hopefully) moderate expectations unfullfilled ................

Or being a Stars, Panthers or Isles fan and having your lofty expectations (based on last year) crash and burn?

- fastek

good point, honestly if the sabres were in the latter category it would be worse....doesn't make the sting of this season any less imo

So my wife and I are moving to Florida in a few months therefore we needed to sell our house in Rochester and our cottage on Conesus Lake.
While We have two close friends who are realtors, We decided to try For sale By Owner first. We put both house on Zillow as Coming Soon, meaning we needed additional time to prepare them ... but we were lucky and had a potential buyer for each of the properties over the weekend ... sold one today for full asking price and no contingencies, the other we are finalizing negotiations. Both properties were listed about $10K over the real estate agent recommendations!

Moral of the story ...
- got $20K more for purchase prices combined
- saved about $30K in real estate fees
Combined that is $50K more in our pockets!
Do you really need real estate agents?..
Not so much, these will be the 4th and 5th houses I have sold myself.

- IonSabres

But how close do you sit to the glass? That's all anyone really cares about.

Congrats. In today's world with the technology we have a realtor isn't as big a need as it once was. As long as you have a good banker and lawyer you're good to go.

The way some people talk it was as if there were Cup aspirations this year. The stated goal was to basically sneak into the last spot in the playoffs. Obviously for numerous, various reasons we won't, but I don't see the huge regression that others see.

I see good in this team this year I see:

Eichel, to me is better than I could've hoped for his second year once he got healthy. I was thinking 70 points at the top end 30-40. But he's almost a ppg player despite playing hurt for 20 odd games.

Reinhart is more of an enigma. His point totals have increased, but he does seem to disappear for stretches. But he's 21 years old.

Risto made a big leap, especially with his gap control. He's deadly on the PP. Still has more to learn. Hopefully they can get his ice time down so he can be used more effectively.

Lehner. The biggest knock on him was "can he play 55-60 games." Yes, and his numbers held up all year long. Including his SV% which after a rough few weeks is down to .920, still good for 8th with Crawford among starters. He has his faults, but the 2 main things we needed from him were: play a starters schedule and keep your numbers up. He did both.

McCabe has been up and down. Mostly up.

Okposo is basically as advertised. I never really bought the "he's not a power forward" or "he can't stay on his skates" bullpoop.

ROR had basically the same season as last year, same TOI, close in points, spread between PP and 5v5. Playing all those minutes and was only a -1 on a team that's collectively -32. He's killer on the dot 2nd in the league with guys who have taken at least 1200, (he's taken 1728) at 57.9%, behind Bergeron at 59.8%. It should also be noted that Duchene went 62.4% with just over 1000 FOs.

Kane scored about as many goals as I was hoping for in about half the season. Not a peep from him off-ice wise.

If, before the season started, you told me that Moulson would get 14 goals, I'd tell you to GTFO.

Some of the kids have come up and played well enough. Maybe not great, but they didn't look out of place exactly either.

With some of the talent on some of the teams the Sabres are currently number 1 in the league on the PP duking it out with Toronto and Washington all year long. You have to go all the way to the Flyers at 14 to find another team out of the playoffs.

There was bad too. but we all know what the bad is, and it's been beaten to death so many times so many different ways, so I'm not going to go into it in this space.

Ultimately we will come up short of the pre season goal. A full off season, hopefully, with a new coach and a system that lets his big guns loose. A few additions on the blueline, and stay relatively healthy next year. With the talent that we have upfront and the couple guys on the blueline, plus the additions, THIS WILL BE A PLAYOFF TEAM NEXT YEAR. BOOK IT.

If they don't put Gorges on the press box so Guhle can play, then they aren't serious about being a better team because Guhle is already better then Gorges. He's probably better then Bogo already too.
- kingcong39

You're severely jumping the gun on Guhle!!!
i think he will EVENTUALLY be good...
but youre really gonna try to say a rookie w/ only a couple games experience isnt going to make more mistakes than even Gorges or Bogo?
sorry man.. but NO WAY
this kid wasnt drafted top10

ppl are expecting WAY WAY WAY too much from him...
and WAY too soon

is Guhle a top4 defenseman?
yes, most likely

Nice Bandit. Both Moulson and Gionta did just fine, in my opinion. Defense needs work, need some energetic youth chomping at the bit (Erod) and we need to sort out who is staying and who is going from the RFA's.

this board is like, 9% people who understand reality and then 91% weirdo video game playing dreamers.
I like Guhle. We could possibly ruin him if we expect him to fill a 3-4 role on this team. We dont have the depth to ruin a defenceman right now...
if he blows minds in training camp, so be it. but don't force it.
Right?

injuries, coaching, defense can all be improved.. but if the effort against toronto from monday shows up again next season they shouldn't make the playoffs.. the only player that didn't look like a former 8th round pick was the backup goalie who came in on relief. that was a sad display for a show me game against your biggest rival. just deplorable

My money is on this opening night defense

McCabe - Risto
Antipin - Bogo (Yes, we're stuck with him)
Falk - Guhle
Gorges - Fedun

Murray goes shopping, doesn't find much on a budget.

They were shell shocked. Toronto came out needing points and punched the Sabres in the mouth. We didn't know how to recover, good teams do. Sure, effort could have been better, but if that first 5 minutes doesn't happen, we're looking at a totally different game.
