He must've had some pictures of Russian prostitutes peeing on Chevy to get that deal.

In all sincerity that's a big issue with trading or trying to sign guys with high draft statuses. They tend to get more chances/paid more just based on reputation.

Yup. I hadn't seen the video from the "ball marking penalty", but someone just posted that it really wasn't as bad as depicted as the camera angle changed about 3 inches. Stupid that they allow anyone to call in. If playing partners and officials don't catch anything and 1 hour is passed card signing.... done! Lexi got screwed but handled it well. Mickelson just said today, that it is rampant on tour, the "poor ball marking" practice, and it should be a type of thing with 1 warning from Officials after the round then if it doesn't get cleaned up.... penalties will be assessed.

In every sport there's gray areas in most rules. But golf seems to be the only "sport"(I love golf, but it's not a sport) where every single thing is black and white. I mean what exactly is holding in the NFL? When you're on the green, that's one thing, but if no one catches it when everyone's looking, especially those paid to catch those mistakes, it can't have been very egregious, certainly not worth 4 strokes.

I really love salt water taffy. If I don't force myself to not buy it when I see it at the store, I think I would eat it until I made myself diabetic.

Yeah, I don't know. That's definitely true to an extent, but that deal was/is huge. Especially then. I don't know if there were threats of an offer sheet from another team and that drove the price up. I remember reading Ek gushing over him before he signed that deal. And I remember thinking he was a pretty good defenseman. His point totals per game have always been fairly solid. I'm actually surprised he got 24 points last year. And other than his first full year he's never been healthy. I guess I can see why he got a large deal he got a good deal of points for a young d-man and was physical without taking too many penalties. I just don't know how you get to $5M from that. Especially because the injury proneness was already rearing its ugly head.

I think largely because he was a top 3 pick, and they figured it was only going to get better.

If you're a former 2nd rounder, 1 or 2 really good years is more of a surprise than an expectation.

Even with Kane for example. He signed a 6 year 31 mil deal after 1 really good season, probably with the expectation as a 21 year old top 5 pick, that would be the norm

Devante Stephens took a big step, but Guhle is still bounds above him. I guess Stephens' skating got a lot better and that helped him ten fold, but Guhle is the much more polished and well rounded prospect. There's a reason why people are talking about him possibly skipping the AHL. Not sure where he'll land next year, but my guess would be as a bottom pairing guy...he's ready for that.
- RhinoFan

Stephens spent the first 2 years in Kelwona learning to play defense the proper way, This year they finally unleashed him offensively and he has shined. it was at least a year ago that Murray said on "GR", Devante Stephens is a kid who we don't what he is going to be able to do offensively, But we do know what he can do in his own end. So, I can't wait until training camp to see what Guhle and Stephens bring to the rink, It wouldn't be bad if they were close to equal talent wise. maybe there is our future 1-2. see already looking forward to next season.

Looking at Kane's numbers they were still good 33 points in the 48 game season with 17 goals. That's 29 goals over 82 games. The next season is when he hurt his shoulder(he said he had been dealing with it for "a few years" before he had it fixed) and was disgruntled because he wasn't traded and still managed 19 goals in 63 games, and then the trade season with his shoulder a big issue and whatever was going on in the locker room. Last year coming off all that missed time he struggled early, but so did the rest of the team. And he turned it on late and got to 20. This year, he gets hurt in the first game breaking 4 ribs. Finally healed by December and he's been mostly on fire since. Cooled off lately, but he's still got a couple goals recently. I think Kane's contract is actually a good one.

Context is key too. You have to take into account everything that goes on. We know what Kane is at this point. A guy who will score at about a 25-30 goal pace, get assists only by accident, physical, fast, and will probably miss at least 10 games a year due to style of play. I'm 100% ok with a 4 year $6M per. That being said if he stays healthy next year and pots ~25 and keeps his head down someone is going to offer him a crazy deal. He's a guy GMs get a boner over as a guy you want in the playoffs. Ville Leino got a stupid deal(the first 2 years were $6M each in celery) based on 19 games. Sure he had a solid year the year after his epic playoffs, 19G 34A, but it was a combo of new owner wanting to make a big splash and those 19 playoff games where he fed Briere to 21 points.

They're out of call ups. And it's not emergency. Unless the rules are different for Junior players after their season is done.

What is this? That's clearly a, relatively, recent pic given the visors and helmets on the other players, plus the sticks in the background. But the helmet he's wearing plus the gloves are totally 80's.

I think it's right where it should be, no more, no less.

The production he gives vs. off ice /injuries is that of a 4.5-5 mil guy IMO.

6 is fine if it's 3-4 years. I wouldn't go a dollar more or year longer.

I can't imagine the injuries happen less frequently later in his career

I agree. I never said they had to take a second round pick. I said we should open talks with offering a second rounder, I'm sure that we'd have add more. But, it doesn't appear that they are in much of a possession of strength, so start making calls now, and see if you can get a deal done the moment Minny's season is over.
- sskkoo1

Im quite sure GM's are reaching out to teams that cant protect everyone they would like to in order to see if someone could be pried free. my guess is that teams are looking for a young player or prospect that doesn't need to be protected + pics, bags of pucks, whatever. if a team can get a player on the cusp of making the NHL, they're going to take that over a pick that they have to wait years for to develop. But regardless, im sure there have already been conversations.

Since his run of like 20 points in 21 games, he has 4 points in his last 12 games.

Still a good year but you had to know that he wasn't going to continue to get the bounces.

Thanks. I was going to say it looked like Parise a little. I forgot he changed his number because of Koivu. I thought it looked photoshopped at first because of the old equipment amongst the new.

I wouldn't think they'd necessarily happen too much more frequently either in the next 5 years, he's not even 26 yet. A 4 year deal would take him until he was 30(31 during the summer after the season). The age he will likely start to decline.

4 year deal would take him to 31. Eh... Similar players like Bobby Ryan, Lucic, even Perry are starting to slow down in their late 20's. ( Perry started to see a dip in production at 29)

Not that he would be horrible, but I would wager he starts to slow down around then.

That's why 4 years would be my max term
