why would the rangers trade a fringe HOF player for ennis?

serious question

maybe 2 second rd picks and ennis

- homiedclown

Purely a cap saving move.

Again I don't want Nash, unless he comes very cheap. he is essentially a one year rental.

I guess the real questions is, did Murray scout him while in Ottawa, if so, expect two 1st round picks for Nash and a cap dump.

It's like a grade school argument where two kids say my dad is better than your dad, when all that matters is that both are good fathers.

Why does it matter if Murray has been interested in Antipin for the past 4 years?

I know it fits the narrative but Antipin looks to be a player that has talent on defense and he would only cost money.

I'm failing to see the downside other than using it as further proof Murray is blind to his Ottawa days and he's always drunk, supposedly.

Of course you do his post basically chalks Matthews success up to other people's work.

Actually his description fits Laine more.

A quick look at takeaways would tell a different story.

Further, Matthews is outscoring him ppg so far in NHL games played and beat Eichel's rookie points handily.

Eichel is a great player, I don't dispute that, but the explanation of the supposed differences is a homerish joke, as is comparing a guys second year to a rookie season.

and let's not forget that Eichel has never had 2 rookies around him for most of a year, nor was he asked to be the #1 center.

- Aetherial

These players are equal, neither is better than the other, they're just different in style, and both are lesser to McDavid.

Let's stop acting like Eichel is a seasoned vet in this league, he's in year 2 for heaven's sake. And, year one was played with crap line mates. Put him with the talent Matthews has around him and he would have easily scored more than 56 pts last year.

And, stop acting like Matthews didn't play in a professional mens league last year, because he did. He's not coming from competing against 17 year olds in juniors to dominating full grown men. The guy was already prepared for what he'd be facing from game 1 of the season.

Yeah, Matthews so far is a bit up on Eichel ppg wise as for career stats so far, about 5% actually. But this season, Matthews is still below Eichel considerably.

Point is, they're both great and equal at a talent level, but different players. If you have a favorite, that's great. But, to suggest Matthews is clearly better than Eichel is flat out wrong, the Math doesn't hold up.

our coach is stupid enough to bench eichel from pp's
- homiedclown

most of Matthews goals are even strength. I think he might lead the league in even strength goals?

5 on 5 stats, 2016-2017

goals / 60 mins played
Matthews 1.57, Eichel .79 --> 99% more for Matthews

Points / 60 mins played
Matthews 2.16, Eichel 1.78 --> 21% more for Matthews

Even the current season performance can be viewed much different than what some fans here would like to think, when you consider ice time and 5 on 5 time.

We're never going to get anywhere with Robert Leonard in the nets. Murray wasted a first rounder on him. And Connor Black is doing great at Boston University.

Did you know Eichel will never approach 40 goals in his career? That was a gem that was assured to us last night.
- kingcong39

So knowing what we know about McDavid, Matthews and Eichel now and for the purpose of this exercise were all in the same draft class, what order would they be drafted?

Edit: Add Laine to the above if you like. Hope it doesn't knock Eichel to #4

I don't trust Murray anymore. That extension he just got though. Pegula is stupid with just throwing this money around.

Could very well be paying close to $30MM for people to not work for him including Bylsma, Rex and Possibly Murray, possibly Whaley as well.

Not a good showing from him at the moment.

Yeah, you need to actually look at the whole story. See my post above.

You are welcome to your opinion, we're all fans. The fact is, Buffalo fans started this stats picking, and so far, sorry, your stats-based arguement has been pretty soundly beaten.

Pegula does not pay Rex a dime so you have to adjust that number and remove his name.
