That's the thing, though... there is really no evidence of Matthews being better, so it's not being a homer to say so. Both are great players, but the fact remains, this season, Eichel is out producing Matthews, and that's what it's all about.

Afinogenov was lightening fast and Ennis can stick handle in a phone booth, but are they better than Matthews and McDavid? Of course not, but why? Because they don't produce points.

Matthews may be more a natural goal scorer, but he has yet to produce a one-timer like Eichel or make a goalie look invisible like Eichel did to Anderson on that break away yesterday.

Matthews success is also a product of the quality around him, he has some really talented fellow rookies to play with. You know that's not going to last. The league will adjust to the Leafs rookies by next year and their production will suffer for it.

It's hard to actually compare the two because in reality, they're completely different style players. I said it after the last Toronto game. Matthews is more of an opportunistic guy. Right place/right time kind of player. Eichel overall is more dynamic. Eichel creates his own chances more often than not whereas Matthews cashes in on the chances created around him.

Both are top notch players. Not sure why there has to be a discussion of "Who's better" at all, because at the end of the day, you're really trying to compare apples to oranges.

I'm going to enjoy watching the two of them in the league for a long time. That's what I know for sure.

I 100% agree with your post. They're both awesome and pretty much equal, they just have different styles. I just find the argument that Matthews is "clearly better" to hold no water.

If Risto gives me Fowler and Lindholm in return. Then I'd explore it.

3 games to get 6 points. Looking more like plateauing or dare I say it regression than progression this season.

Also, not sure how we can argue Eichel is better than Matthews. 40 goals in rookie season. Yeeeeshka.

Welcome to Paradise Buffalo Sports Fans. At least next year won't feel like a disappointment because at this point, how could you expect anything from either team?

- Hatboro_Swords

Did you know Eichel will never approach 40 goals in his career? That was a gem that was assured to us last night.

Jack is the only guy I do not trade.
If Risto can bring me someone like I dont Know Taylor hall back I'm all for it.
Risto for one of Duchene/Mac I do it.

Then I turn and trade Reinhart to Anaheim/Carolina for a d-man
Trade Kane and a 2 for a d-man
Sign Antipin.

Like someone mentioned Ennis for Nash swap.

So many ways to fix this team, Everyone except Jack is on the table, Including ROR.

On top of everything you said, the Eichel Matthews comparison is literally a who cares subject.

The only thing that matters is the Sabres turning into a top quality team.

The rest is nonsense.

I have a better solution: keep Risto while doing the other two trades for defensemen so you have a very deep defense.

Of course you do his post basically chalks Matthews success up to other people's work.

Actually his description fits Laine more.

A quick look at takeaways would tell a different story.

Further, Matthews is outscoring him ppg so far in NHL games played and beat Eichel's rookie points handily.

Eichel is a great player, I don't dispute that, but the explanation of the supposed differences is a homerish joke, as is comparing a guys second year to a rookie season.

and let's not forget that Eichel has never had 2 rookies around him for most of a year, nor was he asked to be the #1 center.

Again, This team needs fixing. How else are we supposed to do it?

IF you can get 2 good d-men in here for Kane and Reinhart, sign Antipin, bring in Guhle.

Move Risto for a top 3 forward.

I'm open to all options to make this team better.

Only person not on the table is Eichel. Everyone else is on the table. If not, Murray is not doing his job and needs to be removed.

- ImThatGuy

I would really want to hold on to Risto also.
