elliot?

if we lose ullmark and can't sign petersen

they need a plan B on the roster

- homiedclown

6 of one half a dozen of the other, 6 to 5 and pick'em pretty much with backups.

Lehner is the unquestioned starter. I still think Vegas takes a salary from us.

We need a backup. And despite what people on here say Lehner has more than earned the starting job. He's still top 10 in SV% with this defense. And his GAA isn't the worst, considering the defense. Is he elite? No. But he's easily a starting caliber goalie, and a top half one at that.

I think we keep Ullmark/Nilsson or add some other random scrub like Nilsson was before the season

this team was not prepared

that is all coaching

- homiedclown

This is BS to me
These guys have played hockey all their lives

Were they unprepared?
OR
Did they just make sloppy plays & failed to execute?

I mean this in all seriousness
Obviously Bylsma doesn't coach them to make mistakes...
so how EXACTLY is he supposed to have them "better prepared" to play?

What is he supposed to say or do to get the players to skate harder?
Or to play sound defense? Or to not make mistakes?

All this blaming the coach is utter nonsense
Did Bylsma tell McCabe to fan on the pass?
Did he say to leave Matthews open in the slot?
I'm SURE he said not to

It's on the players
It's on the players
It's on the players

You know Chilly is only a couple years older than you, how could you think that was him? Jeffery Dean Morgan is in his 50s.

Overall...
of course EVERYONE is to blame

I just have an issue with ppl saying it was Bylsma's fault...
Bc the Sabres were unprepared...

I want someone to explain EXACTLY how Bylsma should've "prepared them better" because I think that excuse/line of thinking is nonsense

For example:

If Matthews was open bc someone didn't know they were supposed to be in that spot to cover him...
that's on Bylsma!

But if they knew, and just didn't get there bc of effort or mental error, etc...
then it's on the player

They are the ones screwing up out on the ice

Yes, yes you can. How can you not? They went head-to-head and Bylsma came out on top.

It's not a "ridiculous" false equivalency at all. Those Red Wing teams were the best teams since the Oilers. Babcock has one Stanley Cup. Bylsma has one Stanley Cup against Babcock. If Crosby and Malkin were as good as you're insinuating they'd win every year. I don't think you realize just how hard it is to win a Cup.

Crosby had a whopping 3 points in the Final against Babcock. Malkin was good, had 8.

To be fair. This is the first time in 20 odd years he's coached a team with high draft picks. It seems to have invigorated him

I just don't know how to fix this team.

Im losing faith in Murray, Bylsma should be a goner.
23 is starting to anger me, he just doesn't take games over.

I'm fine with not getting a point the rest of the year.

When I watch hockey games - particularly Sabres games - I often recall some of these gems that my PeeWee hockey coaches taught me:

1) don't throw the puck up the middle
2) keep your head up
3) cover the man in front of the net
etc

I am truly amazed at the number of times players - and particularly Sabres players - forget this basic stuff. You can't hang that on the coach. That is a player issue. Having said the above, I still want Disco fired.

My favorite thing they do right now is the "drop pass." They do that a TON. It's a very low percentage play to begin with, yet they do it CONSTANTLY.

Some things are like breathing, some things are like simple addition, something's are like long division.

You ought to be able to breath, and probably even do simple addition, nonmatter what else your focusing on.

I never played the game - so I don't know whether covering the man in front is like breathing or more like long division - but I get the sense and have read that Bylsma's system requires so much focus that it's impossible to do long division, and maybe even simple addition, while you play the system.

Many have said, for example, that Girgensons and Nelsons regression are attributable to that complexity.
