oh man im so looking forward to him playing with vdv and belly. - jmdodgeser4
I don't know.
I could actually see them moving Filpulla to wing. Run something like this:
Konecny - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Weal
Filpulla - Vechionne - Simmonds
Vandevelde - Bellemare - Weise
Just want to see him play and Tuesday could be interesting with all the extra stuff if it is there. |

He's here for another year, and the Flyers have Vecchione, Laughton, Vorobyov and Rubstov as center prospects. If one of them isn't ready to be a top 9 center in 18-19 then Hextall can look at a trade or free agent signing then. - Feanor
I'd like to think that one of the guys they've drafted could one day full a center spot on the second line, but I'd rather have it filled by an established NHL'er who represent an upgrade in skill. Of those you listed, the more skilled ones like Rubtsov are still a few years away and it's still yet to be seen whether Vecchione can play on a top-2 line. I would be on the phone with Sakic in Denver and see what it would take to bring Matt Duchene over. |

There are mitigating factors involved in terms of his value. He had a bad year by his own standard and has been in a point drought in the second half of the season. His 6 million salary is likely to also narrow the number of teams interested. I'm not sure if he's talked about re-signing there, but if not, the Avs might be under pressure to trade him before he's a FA after next season. |

Was a growing year for Konecny, Ghost and Provorov.
Core players moving forward. All I got. |

Well Mason has 3 more games to try to earn his 200th victory of his career. So there's that.
I'd like to see the college kid inserted into the lineup and maybe someone recalled from the Phantoms now that the playoffs are out of the question.
Other then that, lets go Phillies???? |

Flyers have Couturier to center the 2nd line, and I'd see what Vecchione has before giving up the boatload of assets it would take to acquire Duchene. |

Good luck resigning Duschene.
I'd make an offer on Rantanen. |

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I think the estimated value for Duchene is much higher than what the Avs would settle on if they came to trade him. Sakic can ask the moon in a return, but given his 6 million contract, it would be prohibitive to most teams. If Duchene wants out, I could see the Avs in a bind to get what they can and take something less than what people figure he's worth. Ill get off my soapbox now. |

Teams aren't going to trade top assets cheap. I heard the same thing when supposedly Yzerman was forced to trade Drouin. Duchene can want out all he wants, doesn't mean he is going to get it. I'll pass on trading for Duchene. |

Thank God we were able to get that superstar top-2 pick by being the worst team in the league in 2007. The "lottery luck" sure helped us out. |

Yep, missing out on Kane and getting Luke Schenn with that second pick
really set us back.....

We'd probably feel a little better about it if he was here putting up 20+ goals a season.

Ultimately a disappointing year as a whole. In the end, the Flyers best players were not nearly good enough, especially 5 on 5.
Can Giroux and to a lesser extent Voracek bounce back next season? It's certainly possible. However, after every season that passes the probability of these two carrying play like they did 2 to 3 years ago declines.
This is the biggest question facing the Flyers next season and I believe Hextall knows that. No doubt some new faces will be on the roster next year and that will be exciting. But what do you do with a core that has shown the same inconsistency across three different coaches? I'm hoping something can be done to change the mix.

Point is, just being bad isn't a recipe for success, especially with the new lottery system. You have to be bad and get a star player with that pick. The Flyers were bad for arguably the worst draft since 2002. Had they been bad in 08 instead of 07, they'd have gotten one of Stamkos or Doughty. The 07 draft class was basically Kane and then everyone else. - jmatchett383
definitely a luck component that a lot of people overlook. |

Duchene has one year left, so Sakic better get to working the phones or doing his best sales job to Matt...should be interesting to see what happens next season with him. |
