Yeah brah. I'm born in Slovakia, so the team Europe or whatever is kinda meh. - flyer_nutter
It's arguably better than the Olympics because it consolidated the best players from the weaker nations. You don't want to watch 4th liners but will poop on the tournament that has a better collection of talent and doesn't change the complexion of the major nations because you want to complain about our Corporate capitalistic pig overlords |

I guess.
Capitalistic pig overlords. Dead on.
Although part of the lure of the Olympics for me is competing amongst countries. Before globalism made us all serfs again, nationalism was a thing. |

May have found our next HB 'debate'. Joy
Millionaires arguing with billionaires, (frank) em all. Shall make the tournament more interesting if they actually dont go for that matter. - flyer_nutter
Men's hockey will be cut if they don't change this before Bejing. Two Olympics without the NHL and men's hockey ratings will plummet.
Canada's team should be ok. The US will be back at miracle on ice if they win a medal. |

How awesome that woulda been. Sadly I didn't watch a minute of it.
Its money pure and simple. League is fine with their own stars playing extra hockey as long as they get the $$$. Ahhh well. |

Nutter is right, it's all about the money, though I'm not upset with the decision. Rather they got rid of NHL players in the Olympics and the World Cup. If they want to do a World Cup have it with AHL prospects. Would make it more exciting in my opinion because we get to watch the future of the NHL in tournament style hockey without having to worry about our current players suffering an injury that could screw up the current season. |

Agreed u21 Olympics like they do for men's soccer would be extremely interesting to me. Probably more interesting to me than the nhl as it'd be our prospects and that's the pride and joy of the organization right now. I love watching world juniors. Last year's championship was one of the most exciting hockey games I've ever seen. By making it u21 you'd also have a lot of ahl studs or even some nhl players who aren't deemed necessary to their team go.
I also went to the world cup. I thought it was a ton of fun. I liked team Europe and North America the made the games way more competetive and interesting. |

Haven't really cared about the Olympics since they started using NHL players. I have no problem with having a tournament every 4 years to determine the best hockey team in the world, but I do have a problem with disrupting the NHL season for 3 weeks in February and risking injury to key players 2 months from the start of the playoffs.
Either move hockey to the Summer games, or, better yet since I'm not a fan of the international ice surface and rules, just hold the World Cup in September every 4th year.

They would have to go to a tournament like this. If they didn't the countries who's leagues will shut down will be the better teams. Plus this would level the playing surface. |

I would love it. And like the soccer tournament you could have one over ager. Would make a story line if crosby verse mcdavid gets chosen as the 1 etc etc. Could be fun. Could also be what's team willing to let their guy be the over ager. Also imagine how many u21 players we may have on the rosters. We could easily have 15+ I'd be glued to my seat way more than watching bellemare be 1c for France. |

Talent-wise, the US is night and day compared to the late '70's group that comprised the "Miracle on Ice" team.
Even without NHL'ers, the US would still be in the conversation to medal. |

How do the men's hockey ratings compare to other winter sports now? I bet they pale in comparison to figure skating, skiing, and probably even curling. |

Sounds like he'll debut at home on Saturday. I hope McDonald goes back to the Phantoms after tonight since they have important games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Still waiting for anyone in the media to ask Hextall why they recalled McDonald instead of playing Lyubimov. |
