I believe they will re-sign him but that doesn't make his a lock for the team.

Hopefully they do , I've liked what he's brought to the table so far.

I agree but he does seem to have a knack for scoring goals and that's something this team desperately lacks , so not resigning him would be a questionable move just in terms of that alone. For a smaller guy he is really great on the forecheck, you can tell he's giving it his all out there every shift and we need more players like that. Reminds me of Briere a bit. Not to mention I think he's better defensively then Bellemare, really don't get the love this organization has for him, guy is average at best.
- FreshFlyer

Weal isn't playing in the same role that Bellemare has played in.

Personally I'd give Leier and Laughton shots in the NHL before having Bellemare and Read or Raffl on the team next season. Its not like having those three on the bottom two lines for the last two years has really produced much success. Why not give the younger guys a shot, its working for Toronto.
- FreshFlyer

Those younger players will get their shot in training camp, just like they do every year.

I realize that, but if there is one spot left on the team hypothetically and its between Bellemare and Weal I'm picking Weal every single day, because he can actually be a game breaker for this team. You can't deny he seems to have a bit of a knack for scoring some goals when the Flyers really need it. Don't want them to miss out on the next Briere because that is what Weal really reminds me of, everyone has their own opinion though obviously.

The videos shows the hit was to the chest, but it was still incredibly dangerous because Gudas had no idea it was coming.

First time I saw this.

I'm not putting them in that class, the Leafs have several rookies playing depth roles right now. Think Hyman, Connor Brown, Soshnikov etc. Sure Bellemare and Read are decent defensively but on the offensive side of things they don't contribute much of anything. I just think Laughton and Leier would add speed too the bottom two lines and that's what you need to win in today's NHL. I liked what I saw from Leier when he was called up earlier this year, worked hard on the forecheck, was really speedy, and he plays on the pk in the AHL, so why not give him a shot on the fourth line.
- FreshFlyer

Leier did not impress me in his call ups. Small sample size but he did not look like an NHL player to me. I have an open mind about him moving forward though.

I'll rephrase that then. Bellemare and Weal will not likely be in competition for a roster spot next season.

Assuming no huge changes for next season, can we assume something like?

Lindblom-Giroux-Voracek
bSchenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Raffl-Fil-Konecny
VDV-Belle-Weise

Provorov-Mac
Ghost-Gudas
Hagg/Morin/Manning?

- flyer_nutter

Vecchione in there somewhere?

Kings with a disappointing season themselves. Wonder if they'd get together with us for a trade again. Any moves that would make sense?

What's he like anyway? I saw something like a slower version of Read?

I'm thinking something like:

Lindblom-G-Jake
TK-Coots-Schenn
Weal-Filppula-Simmonds
PEB-Vecchione-Weise
Spares: Read & Cousins

Raffl lost in the ED, Laughton traded at the draft while he still has a smidge of value and Leier (he'll clear waivers) in LHV

Provorov-Gudas
Morin-Ghost
AMac-Hagg
Manning

Goal: beats the (frank) out of me

NHL analysts liken him more to Tyler bozak. I'd be very pleased with that. He's a stud in the face off circle so I can't imagine him not playing center

Weal has displayed great touch and great play in all zones. The first filpulla goal last night was a good display of that. Watch the replay Provorov makes a nice pass to Simmonds in the middle of the Ozone as he's entering it. Like what happens so many times with him and Schenn he handled it too long and he was stripped of it as he was ready to shoot which was going to send the rangers the other way in a dangerous rush. Weal however with an excellent stick poke checks the ranger before he could exit the zone keeping it in. Weal then finds Filpulla who makes a nice play to score.

Weal has blown me away in this callup. I didn't see any of this coming from what he displayed before. Here's hoping he is in fact a late bloom

hes not a franchise saver but the kid can play. cheap, young, some skill. those are the guys that need to be given chances in today's game, where young ELCs rule the day. not at least giving him a shot in the initial plans for next year is a mistake in my opinion.

The Flyers actually traded Pat Falloon for Alexandre Daigle.
- johndewar

wow Daigle is only 42. Feels like so long ago I didn't recall that he scored 20 goals got Minnesota. so much skill, so little desire to really put in the work. Falloon's time with Philly was better than Daigle's. Falloon actually had 38-45-83 in 144 games. Daigle was a short lived meh in Philly.

Disappointed in Prouts suspension with previous history, Gudas being hurt and intent should have been at least 4 games. Manning got 2 games for his interference hit with puck right there and player not hurt NHL has no consistency. Could tell Flyers were tired last night started with Amacs giveaway, Delzottos giveaway to led to 3rd goal then Ghosts giveaway caused 4th goal , kudos for not quitting just too many mental lapses.

reminds me a lot of conor sheary. Right not a franchise player but skill with speed that can actually play a 200 ft. game but will probably never get labeled as such

Agreed.

I have the hateyist of hate for stopping the season in the middle for the Olympics.

Hate. It.

- johndewar

to save me from reading about it cause honestly i really thought they would send the players when all was said and done so I didn't pay attention....who are the ones who don't want to go? the NHLPA or NHL?

exactly. and i wont say that sheary is a thirty goal guy away from crosby. but thats what you pay guys 8 million for. to get the most out of guys.

he can probably be plugged in somewhere in the top nine for you guys and contribute 15 goals or so as his floor. that type of production on a cheap contract is worth gold. its also not out of the question that he does get better overall.

Mcdonald is an all around classy hard working player. But I think his value as the phantoms captain and mentor is infinitely more in the ahl than it'll ever be again in the nhl. I also think he likes the less grueling ahl travel schedule. I could see him resign again to Captain the phantoms
- Tfaehner

I believe he is signed thru next season
