no i meant the argument against bylsma has always been that its a lousy system not fit for these players.

The same would be true for sutter, as it is for the Kings right now.

I can't wait for the "He changed the system back!" Because Risto is playing again

risto should've defended that one better...

so you want to re-sign kane for $4.1m/year?...that's your offer to him?

No, I'd trade Kane for Brodin before I resign Kane.

Psysk is not anyplace close to a top 4.
- SABRES 89

Pysyk ranks 127 in the league in TOI/G
He is tied for 98th in points
He has the second highest plus minus on his team out of defensemen and is tied for forth on his team in points by defensemen on a Florida team that is stacked at D with Ekblad, Yandle, Demers and Matheson.

Your insistence that he is nowhere close to a top 4 Dman is not accurate. Most teams are not close to as deep as Florida on defense and would love to have Pysyk. His advanced stats are good, and he is a good passer and smart player. Say what you want, but Pysyk is a top four D on most teams.

Psysk is not a top 4 D man with any team.

I mentioned this before, and I forgot where I saw/heard it, but the Chicago Blackhawks have one 3 cups in seven seasons and are a strong contender for the Cup this year. Most would believe they are the best team in the last decade. In their three cup runs, there are only six players that were part of all three teams: Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, and Hjalmarrsson. Everybody else has been moved in and out, including some very good players (but not great ones).

The Blackhawks have shown that you can really only afford to keep six players tied up for an extended period of time. The rest of the team you need to make interchangable. Assuming that the goal is to build a championship caliber team for an extended period of time, which it should be, who are the Sabres six? Eichel would be one. Ristolainen would be another. O'Reilly and Okposo are already locked up, so unless you move them (not saying you should or shouldn't), that leaves two spots. This defense as constructed is a tire fire, so you have to get at least one more defenseman that's worth locking up (from where, I don't know). By locking up Kane to a long term deal, you are making him that sixth guy. This doesn't even begin to ask the question of what to do with Sam Reinhart.

The question you need to ask is: does that make you a championship caliber team? Do we really see this team winning a cup with a core of Eichel, O'Reilly, Kane, Okposo, Ristolainen, and even the best defenseman in the league (take your pick...getting him is out of the question, but let's use him anyway for poops and giggles)? I don't. Kane is a luxury type of player for an already solidly built team. He's one you add when you already have a solidly built team. I would argue Okposo is as well, but they already have him locked up for quite a while. The team has too many holes for luxury players right now. The reality is that you can't afford to lock up Kane and expect to become Cup contender, not with the way this team is constructed right now.

I think on the ice kane represents everything that's been lacking in buffalo for years---he's a fast-skating powerforward who can score, hit and even fight when necessary...five-six years ago we'd have given almost anything for a player like that, now that we have one people want him moved...for a top-four d-man or the equivalent of jaro spacek from that time

"Five-six years ago" (probably more), this team didn't have anywhere near the amount of holes it does now. This team can't afford him right now, not at that type of money we are talking about.

Why would us then trading Kane somehow validate me hating the trade? Especially if we get a good d man back?

We get it, you love Kane. Your love blinds you from the fact that the guy might not hit 45 points either year for us so far.

6 million? For what

sure they can...I did a salary-cap breakdown where I fit both shattenkirk and kane in the 2017-18 season...need to move some dead weight, but it can be done...

don't forget, Chicago grossly overpaid for christobal huet and brian Campbell those early years and it got them to the promised land

Your love for Myers and Armia is blinding and that is your issue with Kane and Bogo deal. Myers and Armia have done what again for the Jets ? I missed it.

I wouldn't give Myers or Armia 6 million either.

Again, 6 million for what? To have as bad of a contract as Bobby Ryan in 2 years?

he is not a top 4 on this team

no way pysyk leapfrogs bogo or risto for our top 4

the difference between falk, a cheap free agent we signed and pysyk is minimal at best

Myers is at 5.5, pretty damn close. Kane will get 6 or close to it.

They had to move them eventually though. The goal is to become a perennial contender. You don't do that with Kane. You might be able to if you didn't have O'Reilly and Okposo locked up already. It might fit next year, and maybe even year or two after, but eventually, you will have to get out from under that contract. Like sbroads said, $6 million for 45 points isn't worth needing to get out from under ever, regardless of how much his hardnosed play makes the blue collar fanbase feel better about itself.

People like to point to the "market" and what it will pay for a player like Kane. However, people don't seem to realize that the same "market" is set by teams that are mediocre or worse. If Evander Kane were on the Blackhawks right now, under the same contract situation, Chicago wouldn't think twice, and let him walk (or trade him before his contract runs out), off ice shenanigans or no off ice shenanigans.

Based on this year, Myers is worse. Based on career, Kane would be worse.
