Seems like a great guy and has had an amazing career...but thank the hockey gods that Patrick Elias is retiring!

Congrats to him

Konecny is not a 4th line player next year. If he is a 4th line player our future is not as bright as I once hoped.

He's been a drag on that 4th line

I'm interested in what this team will look like next season. We could potentially have 1/3 of the team turn-over. We should move on from Lubimov, Del Zotto, Schultz, Mason, and Vandevelde. And I would like someone to take Read off our hands. And I am assuming Raffl will be taken in the draft.

Then we need to try and find a decent LW.

??-Giroux-Voracek
Weal/Leier-Filppula-Simmonds
Weise-Couturier-Schenn
Bellmare-Cousins-Konecny

IMO it finally gets us a 3rd and 4th line that can add something to the team at ES.

Provorov-Sanheim
Morin-Gostisbehere
Manning-Gudas
MacDonald

Scary to have so many young defenseman on the team but Morin and Sanheim can platoon with MacDonald. Should help to keep them fresh as rookies.

???
Nuevirth

With all the goalies available it would be a darn shame if we cant get better. Fluery, Bishop, Crawford, Howard.... anyone that might just give us consistency until Hart or Stolarz are ready.

Very much doubt that Sanheim opens the season playing on the top pair, I think, sadly, it's more likely that he opens the season in LHV and the D looks like:

AMac-Provorov
Hagg or Manning-Gudas
Morin-Ghost
Hagg or Manning in the Presser

Also, I would be very unhappy if Konecny were still on the 4th line at the start of next season.

What does everyone think about V. Filppula? Are we keeping him next year? Are you guys happy with the trade?

I was arguing with a friend of mine at the time of the trade that its a no lose trade. Since we have plenty of cap room now if he stinks its a one year deal and its over. However, if he ends up being good then its a huge win.

Couturier's play alone makes me love the trade.

things I'm encouraged about....Coots/Schenn together. they need to stay together moving forward. Weise. seems to finally be coming around. Weal. Kid looks like a player. hope they sign him. Ghost...while he will never be great defensively, he has turned his game around. Provorov....cause, well, Provorov. Konecny. Giroux, while still not Giroux of 3-4 years ago, he has been better and looking healthier. Gudas....love me some Gudas. Simmonds is Simmonds. Jake needs to be better but I still think he is a really good talent. I'm encouraged about the prospects coming along.

I'm remaining positive

Bwahaha.....spot on! Now if the Phantoms could only play a little better defense, they'd be the overall favorite to win the Calder Cup.

I don't why why I got a chuckle out of that bold part.

I'm in the same boat. I see good things from Ghost and G finally. Jake and Simmer really are having normal years in the stat sheet other than Jake's +/- and that was good for some comedy recently between him and Mike Commodore. Glad to see Weise be.. well more like what we expected.

I see the point of wanting to get a better pick. I really do. Makes sense. However, when I watch I just cannot remotely root for them to do anything but win. Just can't do it. its in my soul to get excited when they score...when they win. Esp when I go to the games and I go often.

He makes about half dozen really smart little plays pretty much every game. These are the kind of smart, poised plays that you only see the best Dmen in the league make.

More and more, this kid is starting to remind me of a faster, more solidly built Eric Desjardins.
