This is not the time to bring in the expensive contender coach... Remember what Denis Savard did for the Blackhawks? Believe in, encourage & develop the youth... Deploy them to gain situational experience/confidence... We need that for a few years.

Then unceremoniously fire him & bring in the Quenneville type.

It sends the message that we dont know what we are doing because this new coach is #4 since 2013. It also tells all other coaches that this management group (and/or owner) is erratic and unpredictable and could potentially fire you at any moment.

Since Henning started coaching the Islanders in 1994 until Capuano started with the Islanders in 2010, they went through 12 coaches who averaged 99.67 games per tenure. Oilers, since they fired MacT in 2009 up to today with McLellan have had 6 coaches, averaging 90 games per tenure.

I dont think its a coincidence that teams who change coaches often dont work their way out until they commit to one guy

You heard the saying coaches say about "being hired to be fired". Those who stick longer show success in some way. Development, wins, culture, right?!?

I assume youre suggesting that the reason those coaches didnt stick around because they didnt show results? Or are you saying that when you let them stick around longer you can see their successes in some way?

That they succeeded in some way to do something to positively effect the team. Obviously wins is the easiest measure but not the only one. Like systems, development etc. for example a HC can be attributed to having the team doing X well. Has a good PK. You can go on with the breakdown.

Best thing I have heard or seen is that WD hasn't lost the room or has the support of the vets. That the players try hard most often. Not sure if that's enough. Hasn't saved other coaches.

That sounds good. Are we getting that from WD? If not, is he capable of doing it based on his overall career and here?

My point was that it takes time. Just like you cant judge a GM in the first 2 years, I dont think you can properly assess a coach's impact until they have been given enough time to establish themselves (with the exception of losing a room entirely). In no way should a team go through as many coaches as some franchises do and properly assess the situation.

Kreuger to Eakins is an example of thinking something better has come along and it backfiring. How could they possibly know in 48 games what impact he had before firing him?

In all honesty, I think WD is very capable of being that guy if he wasn't handcuffed by inheriting a worst case scenario veteran group when it comes to leadership & tenure.

HIlarious that Doughty didn't fight Tkachuk last night.

A teenager is dominating an entire "gritty team" that has won 2 cups. I say again, Juolevi better be good

For a few years now we've been whining for a rebuild to happen. Now when it's happening, and we inevitably lose games we scream for the coaches head.

Fair point. Not sure what amount of time is appropriate.

Hmm sounds like chicken or egg stuff here. Guess we really won't know until either WD or those players are removed.

Just can't say more of the same is helping the rest of the team. Let's see what happens in the offseason.

It's now on management

More holding back against the eventual re-build. Can't wait to see what happens this off season, I'm hoping this off season speaks volumes about this teams direction.

These two games in China remind me of Wag The Dog. Deflect the attention away from two teams that have struggled.

Should be Pittsburg and Edmonton with the two biggest names in hockey.

It sucks because listening to Hank today he has seem to take the ambassador role and instead of maybe looking to play for a more competitive team he will spend his time shaking hands instead.

- VANTEL

playing in china buttman great, lets give more jet lag to the canucks, then start the season on a 7 game trip come home for 3 in 4 days and back out for more.

enough with Pitt, Chicago being in everything.

I really think they chose Van/LA for 2 reasons. The first being geographical relation to China. The second, competitive teams would really oppose the travel as it could have adverse effects on the start to their season. With VAN (and some extent LA) who cares?

- WhiteLie

we are competitive when were not gassed from the schedule that this bogus league slams them with.

Never. Play to win and dress the best roster always. Our lack of depth will ultimately provide a high pick.

Are you okay with signing some vets and allowing the kids to play in the minors?

yes, as long as vets are signed to short term deals. the kids that are ready should play in the NHL and the kids that aren't should be in Utica
