What about the consultant/advisor role Dragon preferred?

I think the key point of Don's post was "brutal team".

Its one thing to be like Scotty Bowman and go to the Hawks as they are on the upswing, its another to hitch (no pun intended) your reputation to a franchise/management that has their methodology questioned essentially every month.

exactly...if we had a Mcdavid entering the system then perhaps Hitch would want to join and up an coming franchise. We are floundering at the moment and nobody knows when we will start improving.

Ive heard the on the radio (Duthie or Mckenzie, maybe Gallagher) that he wants to coach a western Canadian team. I say bring him as a consultant to Green. I'm not sure that Doug Jarvis was the saviour we thought he would be - but they need someone to fix that powerplay and penalty kill - that's all coaching to me.

Ive noticed that most goalie coaches are guys we havent heard from before. How many great goalies do you see as goalie coach? None.

Bill Ranford, one of the best and most respected goalie coaches anywhere.

This is why I think Willie stays. Its easy for us to name replacements, but these coaches arent stupid, some are content collecting their salaries until a good job opens up (ie Gallant). They know their careers are based off of success and this team hasnt pulled up out of its nose dive yet, why risk getting blackballed on a bad tenure? I think its a miracle Torts got another job after VAN

and miller improved under him
- SMBDragon

Miller seems to have gravitated back a bit to his style before Melanson tried to change his technique. Now you see him getting scored on when he's overplaying a shot or even completely off to one side of the net. You didn't see as much of that from him last year. Looks to me like he's told Cloutier to back off and let him do things his own way, which overall has been working for him.

Why would Hitchcock want to been an assistant coach in Van? He doesn't seem like the type of guy that would leave his "coaching retirement" to be an assistant coach for a brutal team. He isn't known for patience and he won't want a career demotion
- CanuckDon

thats why I said team consultant is best

exactly...good coaches won't be lining up to work with our roster which is currently in shambles I can't stand Willie but I am not sure who is a candidate and would be interested. I don't think Green is a great fit.

Stupid hockey news ranked Canucks 16th in prospects, even though we got dahlen and gobbler at the deadline. They left them with their original teams.

Anyway, Nux should be ranked higher now.

No to Travis Green. Yes to someone with head coach experience in the NHL.

Torts looks like a genius right now. Said Canucks were stale and he was right. Took Columbus from bottom feeder to the top of the conference. Has a Calder candidate rookie, Team scoring and he listened to his players when they told him to calm down after a team meeting.

With another frustrating season winding to a close in Vancouver, should Utica Comets bench boss Travis Green be the next coach of the Canucks?

I do think Gallant is a good coach....whether or not he is the right coach is debatable. Worth an interview Id say.
He is famous for his flying V offensive strategy

Hire a NHL head coach and let him coach. It would not inspire confidence to hire a head coach and a bunch of assistants and 'consultants' to help the now castrated head coach.

Sullivan also has better players (Crosby, Malkin, Letang) to work with. This isn't a slight against him, as Bylsma dumbed down the talent in Pittsburgh. However, Green wouldn't have that much to work with in Vancouver. He'll be a good coach somewhere, but I don't think the situation is right for either side.

his experience in the nhl and problems with teams tuning him out should result in him finally listening to players. Guy seems to love listening to himself talk

Cloutier was a terrible goalie to begin with, how the (frank) is he coaching.

WTF does that have to do with being a good teacher? You're a teacher aren't you? That's like saying Scotty Bowman was a poopty player so he must therefore be a poopty coach? Which we know isn't true.

You don't have to be able to execute something in order to be good at teaching. This holds very true in golf and hockey. Two sports I'm familiar with.

We have had three different coaches in 5 years and none of them have made a difference.

Time to fire the players. Edler Tanev and the twins are bad for this team
