I feel like everyone here is perfectly happy with the Dome. Would be cool if we didn't build anything new and just enjoyed what we have.

I say we build it by the airport, justify extending the C-Train out there (the fact that we don't have that is messed up) , and have some insane train rides to and from every game.

It would be like having the Red Mile all packed into a several train cars.

Have you been to allot of other barns? I got "nose bleeds" in Pittsburgh and they were glorious. Good options on food, drinks, merchandise.

Anyone who is perfectly happy has never been to a newer arena. In saying that its not falling a part and it has character. My cousin was down from Edmonton and said its the thing that Rogers is missing...

I really can't stand Nenshi, never have. Political opportunist who struck a chord on Social media. He's become another arrogant politician who thinks his poop smells better than us commoners.

I think it all boils down to the fact that Doughty runs his mouth every single game and never backs it up

Anyway enjoy 9th place

Flames got suckered into playing the Kings game....should have got the speed game going and ran all over their slow asses like usual

lesson learned

Flames have won 2 of 3 so far against the Kings down the stretch here, Kings needed the sweep so...whatever

- flashfire

Don't know if this was already said but i think your point is so true. We played the game the way they wanted, which was perfect timing in my opinion.

Big lesson learned here. Chances are we are about to play the ducks in the playoffs and a ton can be learned by this game.

It could not have happened at better timing.

Definitely haven't been to a newer arena. Still seems hard to imagine justifying taxpayers paying 1.2 billion (of the total 1.8 billion cost) for a better dome experience, a new stamps arena, and a field house (which we already have a few of).

1.2 billion?

A beer will be 9.75 at the Dome next year. Imagine what it will be when the ownership group has 600 million to recoup?

I've been to games in LA and I was in awe of their new building. I think Ken King went in asking for too much. Basically twice the Edmonton project. The new football stadium etc... One thing at a time and they should be able to do it for no more than what Edm spent which was $600millionish.

that whole development thing was smoke and mirrors. It was never happening.
Its not the target site for the new arena especially with all the proposals out for the 2026 olympic bid. The new arena location has always been targeting on the stampede grounds again.

Everything is all hinging on that. From arena proposal to C-Train expansion to the airport when finally the non compete clause with the taxi companys ends in 2025.

Like I said, it was never a reality, it was designed to put public pressure on the council regarding funding for a new arena.

Definitely. We get some federal funding and it's looking easier.

Or maybe the feds can let us keep our equalization payments for a year and we can build dozens of 1.8 billion dollar arenas.

The guy who owns the Kings built Staples with his own cash.. But I believe in return he got a lot of land around the area for a song. It was kind of run down nothing there, and now he has or leased the land build theaters, movie and concert, restaurants, hotels, and condo's.

Now one advantage he had was there are 4 sports tenants ready to sign up and the building is being used like 300+ nights per year for concerts and sporting events.

Staples center is great... unless you're a peon who can only afford upper level seats. There are the three or four stories of suites that translate to the upper level being very high above the ice. The old Forum building had much better cheap seats.

Nothing wrong with that, much better than using public funds.

I like the barn in Chicago quite a bit. The AA in Dallas is kinda meh, the one in Sunrise is pretty weak. Perhaps I am partial, but out of all the rinks I have been to, I prefer the Dome. Something something character, but if they do build a new one, it should be similarly iconic. And with as little public funds as possible.

2 of 4 ESPN writers project Ferland going to the Knights, a 3rd said Stajan and a 4th said none.

Who do we think goes? I am still hoping Brouwer.

Speaking of the dome. I'm thinking about organizing a vacation around trying to see a playoff game in Calgary. What would your guys opinions be on:

a. Is there any sections I should avoid altogether?

b. What would be the best way of buying tickets to a playoff game? Stub hub?

Only NHL game I've been to was a 1st round game against the Ducks years ago (got to see Neiderymayer ). Would be kinda funny if the 2nd game I went to was another Ducks/Flames playoff game

-I'm taking the long shot odds on Engellund and I'll double down and say that he's their captain .

-I think Brouwer will be exposed, but not selected.

-We most likely lose a guy like Kulak, Wotherspoon or Shinkaruk. I bet Vegas makes a bunch of deals to take bad contracts from other teams. Thinking most of their other selections will be RFAs/guys with low cap hits.

Ebay bruh.

Seriously though, it is generally cheaper than StubHub. Though they are starting to creep up to those inflated prices.

Don't use Stub Hub. The taxes they charge are absurd. I use Seat Geek, they still charge taxes, but they don't destroy you with them. I save about $20 a ticket, keep in mind I don't live in Calgary and only buy tickets when the Flames are in Carolina or Washington. Caps tickets are expensive as hell and I've found that Seat Geek is pretty fairly priced.

It'd actually be better and possibly cheaper to fly out to CA, see the beach and get scalp tickets for the Ducks game. That is what I would do.

I was actually considering doing something like that (flights from Saskatoon to California to somewhere else south like Mexico were pretty reasonable. Doesn't look like that'll work out for me though

I have some friends and relatives living in Calgary so I could at least save some money on a hotel and probably just drive there (makes the steeper ticket price a little more bearable).

Thanks, I'll check that and e-bay out

Used stub hub for blue jays playoff tickets last year. Definitely more expensive but I was paranoid that I'd end up getting scammed by some other site so I just sucked it up

That is pretty solid. Getting back to Calgary and playoff tix are pricey for me, but holding out, if rd 2 happens I may just bite the bullet. I also got a place to crash which will help. Not sure how the rd 2 seeding works still but I am holding out for BOA first. If that happens, I got to do to, even if it is 4 figures.

If they make a deep run I'll probably just go up to party on the Red Mile a few times An 8 hour drive would be well worth it

No re-seeding for rd 2 I believe. So If we play the Ducks (and win), we would then play the winner of the Sharks/Oilers series.

So I arrived totally late to the party but the following are my thoughts.

Doughty obviously did something that caused Tkachuk to throw the elbow. Maybe Chucky did something to start it all out, it does not matter. Things escalated. It takes 2 to tango.

The elbow from Tkachuk was dirty, but I loved it. If it was on a guy like Bergeron I would be pissed. Berg is a class act. Doughty is a poop disturber and should not be surprised when poop gets thrown back at him.

Here is what it comes down to. Players have personality. I love the way both Doughty and Tkachuk play as it makes the game a lot more entertaining. I would probably not watch a league full of Sedins.

Calgary kinda lost their focus but a game like that is a great learning experience. They are going to be in a lot of games like that in the playoffs and need to learn to be make the other team recact and not vice versa.

Anyways, this was the coming out party for Tkachuk as one of the premier poop disturbers in the league. All these fans from other teams that are aplauding his play now will soon enough be here female doging about him. I love it!!!

I went to a game in the Joe this year. Something special about going to these old barns. Kinda reminded me of the Dome a bit. Coolest thing about the Joe was I got a ticket in the standing room section. They have 4 in standing room sections in the building and you can switch up when you want.

Cheap and at the top of the lower bowl.

That doesn't even make sense. The Flames would never expose Ferland. Even if they are protecting Brouwer who else would they protect over Ferland?

Lazar? Bouma? Chiasson? Shinkaruk? Stajan? They really think that just as Ferland is finally rounding into a top six power forward, they're going to let him go for nothing?

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up trying to sign Elliott with their pick.
