Where is Doughty "sliding into his legs" before Tkachuk jumps? Doughty is still on his way down to the ice and Tkachuk is a good 6 inches off the ice. But yes, it's all on Doughty.

Again, I like Tkachuk and I like the Flames. But this was a dirty hit attempt. If you disagree, then fine, but I'm done arguing it.

I can't tell from this photo if he jumped or not... but even if he did. You can see he's leading with his hips. It would've been a nice clean hit right in the mid section. He's even bent backwards to avoid a head shot.

Well, here's the thing. This kid has balls. He has skills, even when he was getting run & crosschecked by Brown he made a between the legs pass & almost set up the tying goal. Lots of venom from other fan bases hating this kid for stuff that is done by players on all the teams. He's a kid, has some swagger & that's the type of character that builds winning teams. So my reply to any who want to whine that he's such a bad boy:

Suck IT!!!! Mother Fckers!!!!!!!

We love him in Calgary!!

Are you kidding me? Since when does Tkachuk get to choose who he gets to fight? You damn well know that if Johnny Hockey gets elbowed in the mouth by Clifford, he isn't going to be the one dropping the gloves, its going to be Engelland or Ferland doing it. Its funny reading comments because first it was calling out the Kings players for not stepping up for Doughty, then when they do Doughty is the puss and the Kings are ridiculous? The whole point of guys like Clifford, Andreoff and Engelland are to protect and step up for the guys who don't fight especially star players like Doughty. This has been going on for decades in the NHL.

And how dumb are Calgary fans booing Doughty for their player throwing a dirty cheap shot elbow? What a joke.

- LAkings96

Those guys arent necessary when it's against the youngest player in the nhl. What is Doughty even protecting himself for? It's not like the Kings are going to the Playoffs.

Game proved what everyone already knew about Doughty. Likes to run his mouth, disappears when its time to back it up.

Yes, I have no idea about hockey and have never played it at any level. You're completely right, you got me.

Maybe Doughty doesn't turtle is Tkachuk doesn't prepare to take a flying leap at him. Nah, it must be that Doughty's a dirty player and intended to break the kid's legs. That's gotta be it. Doughty should have been a man and let Tkachuk destroy him.

And why does size matter? If you want a guy to "man up" and "fight his own battles" it shouldn't matter what size you are. Is Iginla anywhere near Engelland's size? Why didn't McDavid fight Brandon Manning since they're the same size? I'm guessing Doughty didn't want to fight because he's more valuable playing than getting tossed from the game like Andreoff was.

If you want to say Doughty runs his mouth "every game" then I can't agree or disagree, I don't check the news for Drew Doughty after every Kings' game.

You can wear the red and yellow glasses all you want, but it was a Richard move by Tkachuk. Not saying he's inherently dirty, but it was a stupid play.

By the way, totally pulling for both the Flames and Preds in the playoffs this year.

- jmatchett383

Buddy do your homework before you start smashing your keyboard, Iggy is 6'1" 210 and Engelland is 6'2" 214.

This seems more even of a fight than Tkachuk at 6'2" and Mcnabb at 6'4"

Your completely missing the point, Mcdavid plays a skilled game and has no part of the dirty stuff. Doughty every game is hacking and wacking people much more than usual.

No, but going full on Superman a la Steve Downie on Dean McAmmond wasn't the best idea either. Stay on your skates, lower your shoulder, and lay a hard hit on Doughty is fine. Jumping off you skates to try to decapitate a player is a different matter entirely.

Edit: For the people who wanted Doughty to fight Tkachuk, if Calgary wanted revenge for people slashing Johnny's wrists, would you want Gaudreau to do it or someone like Engelland?

- jmatchett383

Did Gaudreau go to the media after the game and cry about it?

Not sure who your coach was but maybe they taught you wrong. You can try and avoid hits all day, but how you receive them is what he/she SHOULD have taught you.

Agreed!! , Must be an American thing to not learn how to take a hit.

Lost all respect for Doughty last night, he should have went toe to toe with the rookie himself. Yet he lets his boyfriends do the work while he watches from a far. Then to me it looked like he turtled a bit on the open ice hit Tkachuk was about to unleash on him.

Gotta give props to the rookie who didn't let down and kept targeting him.

Why should Doughty have to fight for receiving a dirty elbow? How does that make any sense?

And he saw Tkachuk coming at him with a full head of steam and you think he should have taken that hit? Why? That's insane. Why on earth would you take a hit like that if you don't have to? To give the kid a big moment? Find me one person who's played hockey and would voluntarily take an open ice hit like that. That's just dumb.

Its called earning respect, Look at Malkin when he squared up with Little for the hit to the head. Little wanted to fight him for revenge and Malkin stayed classy and gave him what he wanted. The open ice hit ended up looking much worse than it would have been if he just would have stayed on his feet.

Right, Malkin had to fight because Malkin is the one who delivered the hit to the head. Why should Doughty have to fight for getting elbowed in the head? You understand why those scenarios aren't the same thing, right?

And regardless of how bad the hit would or wouldn't have been had it landed, you don't take an open ice hit if you don't have to. There's no point.

The people who believe that know nothing about hockey. I guess being from Canada gives you a right to be stupid in your comments. You guys have 5 games left. Do you think you'll win any of them?

He doesn't have to fight. He made his own decision to avoid, whine and look like a little female dog. At least he'll be going into the Golf Season in excellent shape without any scratches.

Doughty isn't a fighter. I don't know why anyone would expect him to fight. When has anyone ever been expected to fight for being on the receiving end of an elbow?

Stop comparing Gaudreau to Tkachuk on how they stick up for themselves. Plus Johnny doesnt play a hard crash-and-bang style of hockey, or does purposefully try to get underneath the other teams skin, as Tkachuk does (Because he can handle himself)

The fact of the matter is, Doughty should have manned the F up, yet he didnt, so its obvious he is a little bit of a female dog, because all he does is run his mouth, then never answers the call. Its quite pathetic actually.

Think the bigger issue is Doughty tendency to embellish, engage in cheap / dirty tactics himself and complain to the media. Those together plus then not standing up for himself makes him look bad to most.

Please tell me where you can distinguish that he is "6 inches off the ice"

Lol. It was going to be a clean open-ice hit, and Doughty dodged it like a female dog and made it look like Tkachuk was coming for his head. Im not saying Doughty had to just take the hit, but he could have braced himself much better than just pulling the shoot like that. It still makes him look a little bit like a female dog in my opinion as per all his trash talk and then getting out of the way like that.

I still can't figure out what Doughty did that he has to "man up" for. Is this all because he called Tkachuk a dirty player? Is the kid really that sensitive?

Also, Tkachuk IS A DIRTY PLAYER. I don't know how much you saw of him before this season but this is a pattern that goes back far longer than just this year. He's an excellent player and he's got the skill to be a superstar but he's had a dirty streak in his game for a long time.

I think Doughty and Tkachuk play a similar game in the sense of they definitely hover around the thin line that separates the dirty player from the player with grit and tenacity/truculence. I dont think either are dirty players, but they have been known to cross the line on occasion obviously.

Doughty wouldnt have had to stick up for himself in my opinion had he not opened his mouth in the media about Tkachuk. If he stayed quiet, this probably wouldnt have even escalated. He should have answered the bell on account for him whining to the media, again, in my opinion.

Didn't they both whine to the media? Doughty for saying Tkachuk is a dirty player and Tkachuk for calling out Doughty for saying he was dirty player. I mean even after what Doughty said , couldn't Tkachuk have said nothing?
