Personally, I think he brings some personality and excitement to the game. He's the type of player yo hate on other teams but love on your own. Canucks fans are pi$$ed that Benning too Juolevi over Tkachuk, time will tell who the better player is but the early returns look good for Calgary.

I'm totally with you.

I agreed with everything Milbury had to say last night about the whole thing, too.

Truth!

Although I'm sure everyone here to a man and woman would lean more on the Win side. Like maybe CUP win.

Amen! to ⬆this⬆!!
I wasn't even 1 year old in '61....darn near 50 in 2010....that was a LONG time on the outside looking in.
The way this year's team has come together with so many new guys and injuries to overcome has been very special.

I've actually come around to Milbury. Some stuff I don't agree with, but I think he's sort of a dying breed of sports analyst that speaks his mind and has an opinion, rather than always trying to not offend or say the wrong thing.

I almost asked why he would get flak on social media for his comments, but then I remembered it's social media and everyone needs to go on there and be upset about everything. Haha.

In my opinion, he broke the situation down nicely.

What a joke this really is.........commenting on our FOURTH LINE!!! We sure have it tough these days.

Back when only the REAL fans followed the Hawks we had three 4th lines. Those were the days.

Thank you Chicago Blackhawks....win or lose you are a great diversion to life.

How about Matthew Tkchuk??

Basically an old hockey soul in a new game. Haha.

I wish so bad the Flames and Kings would meet in the playoffs.

- Hank3Henshaw

I love the kid, I would absolutely drop dead if this GM EVER drafted a kid with those attributes or hockey bloodlines. Cousin Kevin told them to stuff it. Argument could be made that he went high in the draft. Still confer with some that if the Hawks had a choice and MattTkachuk was available , SB would still take a 5"6 pigme over someone like that.
Call it what you want, I am still seething over the treatment and reaction of some othe team in that recent 7-0 loss. Schmaultz..... Stood there and basically skated away when Panik was getting rolled by 3Panthers. Your getting embarrassed show some emotion......someone! Some of that you wonder about Joel. I would have sent Hartman or someone else out there to push the envelope and get some fire under their asses. But instead he punishes the kid for lipping off.
The other teams will come out and hit these guys every chance they get come playoff time. My take on the 4th line mix, Kero is a lock, Tootoo and Desi have the most experience, then Hayden and Jurco follow them. Rassmusson blows, he's a waste of a player in a big body that plays bottom 6 withno balls. And call it what you want, Q already wrote little Minni Vinny off even though, organizationally they say otherwise. These playoffs could go either way which keeps it very entertaining.
Getting back to Mathew Tkachuk.... Good job kid, way to answer Your own Bell! I am sure the Kings, even though some of them wanted to rip his head off took notice that the kid was willing to ball up and handle it and respected that out of the kid.
Matt , loved your Dad as a player, keep up the good work kid!

I don't like cheap shots and the elbow to Doughty was a cheap shot. Hopefully Tkachuk can limit that stuff. There was a play in the game last night when Tkachuk tried to line up Doughty at center ice and Doughty ducked and mostly avoided the hit but it looked to me like Tkachuk launched himself at Doughty's head on that play and was going for a kill shot. If Doughty hadn't reacted as quick as he did it could have been a very ugly play.

The thing is is that Tkachuk is a good hockey player. He doesn't need to be a cheap shot out of control player. Hopefully he learns that. I'm all for playing a tough physical game and as you said he's the type of player you hate as an opponent but would love to have on your team, but don't try to hurt anyone.

So - a really dirty elbow to Doughty's head in one game, earning a suspension, then in the next meeting he goes after every player on the Kings (including trying to fight Muzzin on the opening face-off).

This in a game that Calgary could clinch a play-off spot by winning. Which they didn't.

And don't forget the slash to Gaudreau's hand that may have been retaliation for the mayhem.

Selfish play by a 19 year old that while it probably won't cost his team a play-off spot certainly did NOT help his team at the time.

Grow up, Mr. Tkachuk - you too Mr. Milbury - and perhaps some meathead hockey fans who think that both were correct.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Tkachuk is a great young player, but he lacks composure and needs to learn to walk the fine line between physicality and dirty play.

"I expected more from him [Doughty], honestly, than to go right to the media and start complaining after a loss,” and “If it was a pretty dirty play… I mean, nobody really did anything about it and nobody on our end really thought it was that bad."

I mean the kid himself isn't willing to admit it was dirty and thinks the victim here was to blame.

Edit: And to large part, CGY lost the game because players were more concerned winning the "physical battles/fights" and taking runs at the other team than trying to score.

I think we also saw what will essentially be the Hawks top 3 lines (swap out Artem Anisimov for Tanner Kero) come round 1 of the playoffs:

Hey John what are you saying here? More belief that AA will not be ready for the playoffs or Kero a better fit?

thanks

Sorry......was vacationing down in the Florida Keys, and I have to say Key West is a cleaner, nicer New Orleans with the burbon street appeal on Duvall but not nearly the side shows or smell of puke.

Hawks wise.....

--Mentioned a few backs after watching Dubynk struggle mightily vs the Blues with rebound control he was about to turn back into pumpkin....and since then the Wild have just tanked. Still a good solid team, but the bloom if off the rose a bit up there and they are PRIME for a 1st round bounce by either Nash or STL.

--That Calgary team is dangerous. Young, physical, and plays very hard. Watched a lot of that Kings game last night....not sure I want to see them in round 1 if I'm the Hawks.

--Again, no easy outs in either conference. Going to be a war come playoff time and finishing an opponent quickly to rest up before the next battle will be key.

--I think hayden can be an asset in the physical department come playoff time. he has some speed and ability to close on his checks on the forecheck where as Tootoo and Desjardin seem to be steps behind. Jurco? No idea.....but he looks more like Sekera from last year then Panik. A Kruger-Hayden -? could be a serviceable 4th line come playoff time.

--5 games left.....might be wise to rest as many guys with nagging injuries as you can. You are 4 points away from a division clinch, so Q needs to use that to his advantage.

The Hawks season(s) died in Columbus a few times....

Fleury at the club AND Aranson vs Sutter

Bell was a disaster. Talon turning him into Havlat was gold.

I always liked Calder. Guy worked his @ss off.

My worst hated Hawk during that time period was THE Boris Mironov. Foley can rip Karpotsev all day, but #2 was a joke.

Nylander-Sullivan-Dumont was also a nice line back then.....until Dumont and Gilmour were traded for Grosek.

I agree with Colbyboy here. I like his lines of:
Toews-Schmaltz-Panik
AA-AP-Kane
Kero-Hartman-Hossa
Kruger-Hayden-Moose

If Hayden and Moose are not performing you can always go with the vets. I love the write-up by JJ and only disagree with the Hayden assessment. He does go to the front of the net and he finishes his checks. If he screws up come playoff time we can always sit him and put in either Jurco/Desi/Tootoo. But I think the kid has some game and in a smaller/lesser minute role, can be pretty good.

The elbow was as dirty as it gets.......I give the kid credit he sat at the red line and took the verbal shots and Muzzin talked a big game but when TKachuk answered the bell Muzzin was no where to be found. Very similar to when Buff was called out here back in 2007 o 2008 when Columbus took a run at Keith or Kane and Brouwere ended up fighting the guy........the very next game Buff dropped them at the onset of the game.

It's obvious Tkachuk is IN Doughy's head and while his attempt at the open ice hit was at the very best questionable, Kings haven't done much to protect their best player......and I think that is a great example while for year 2 in a row they will be missing the playoffs.

Talk about Q being tough on young players , I think JJ is even tougher .I think he said at the start of the season the HAWKS would be a bubble team at best with 2 or 3 rookies in the line up ,and there would be a shake up coming after 10 or 15 games . I think you will see a lot of our youth playing prominent roles in the playoffs .I have witnessed Q playing young players at the end of 1 goal games this season on many occasions . Hayden to my "untrained " eye is very solid young player . Hartman is very good two way player ,and Schmaltz is a fine player . I would like to see Hinostroza back up and playing ,but hey I leave that to the experts that have brought us 3 Cups .. GO HAWKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calgary better watch that Tkachuk kid closely. Remember what his father looked like during the alumni game? The kid better live in the gym, or the local donut shop will be happy.

They called Calder "Grease". Easy to see why. He would go into a corner 1 on 3 and still come away with the puck most of the time. I always liked him as well.

Morning John,
Nice bounce-back game for the Indianhead.
Wondering whether Q will give some guys games off (would love to see Keith and especially #7 get some rest -- talk about heavy legs . . . ).

As far as President's Trophy, forgetaboutit, not worth keeping the engine at a boil just to get some stupid trophy. Much rather they focus on 2 things the rest of the way out:

PK scheme -- enough of the collapsing box. Get some guys willing to pressure.

PP scheme -- enough with the 4 forwards and 1 D and the enlarged box. I have seen enough ring-around-the-rosie to last a lifetime.

Doughty is no saint. Does the same cheap shot stuff you are getting on Tkachuk for. Atleast the Rookie had the guts to stand up for himself. Doughty sitting watching fight from the bench after more or less causing the whole episode by opening his mouth.

Even for a guy of his size and weight, Panik is deceptively strong. He is really rounding into form here. I thought he was our best player in the 7 games against St. Louis last season. Now he is on another level overall and I am really looking forward to seeing what he does with another opportunity to stand out when the games really matter.
