I think most of the top end players are still coming from CHL, but the list of new prospects joining the league at the tail end here is a very impressive list. Keller, White, Boeser, Jost, McAvoy. I think it will be hard for scouts to justify them going in the top of the 1st round, but as you say in the mid to late rounds should be heavily targetted
- WhiteLie

Players that are going to college would of probably had the chance to play in the CHL guys like Jost. Choosing an education over the CHL. A smart decision I would say, something to fall back on.

American's are playing much more hockey and with 10 times the population of Canada.

Well it's the same reason why Ontario wins the lottery more then any other province.

The USHL is probably closing in on the CHL. BCHL like other smaller leagues will always have a couple players here and there but nowhere near what the CHL produces.

Yes USHL is that type feeder league for NCAA. That's why you got to draft them before they go to college. The un-drafted ones become free agents that you lure out of college or grab graduating year.

I don't know about re-entering the draft for undraftedd kids is it like junior kids? I don't know if it applies to college playing kids. Is it a CHL rule only? Like denying NHL to send 19 year old junior player to AHL team.

Until probably 3 years ago the USHL produced very few good nhl players. A few are now starting to pop up as undrafted college free agents. Until a couple years ago rarely was a player drafted out of the USHL.

CHL kids can re-enter at 19 and 20

Once you start college you can leave whenever you want as a free agent to go play NHL or AHL.

Yes all true. Especially for development. That's a decision a 15 year old has to make. Do they go for the CHL, if drafted, or stay in an "amateur" league like high school, BCHL, USHL and hope they get recruited for a NCAA team by 17/18.

It's why CHL has been more populated.

Edit:
Plus foreign kids don't have the same schooling/English level to be as scholastically competitive. So don't bother as much for those NCAA approved leagues. At least so was the trend to go for the more established and deeper CHL.

Definitely have the chance, most have their rights claimed in the bantam draft by someone in case they change their minds. Tambellini's youngest Adam was at North Dakota but left and went to the Hitmen to tear it up there (though I think it didnt help his development)

Yes. It's the growing movement in the States for entry leagues and rinks. NHL is behind that effort. Example, in my NYC neighborhood. There was an ice rink for all ages and activities: hockey, figure skating, public use. Hockey grew taking up all the free time.

So a couple years ago a group, sponsored by Rangers, opened up a smaller rink a few blocks away. It was only for hockey. Plus for kids to play hockey aged 5 to 12. Like those smaller sized soccer fields for entry level youth.

Canada still seems to have many more generational players come through. Many more "game breakers" like Matthews and Eichel have been appearing lately.

Yes there are should have phrased it differently. Didn't mean none. But thought the ratio was higher for CHL. Just my impression or observation. I don't have a stat on it. You can let me know how wrong I am with the lots part you mentioned.

CHL has import rules 2 or 3 per team only i believe. Which there isn't a rule on how many that I can find, in USHL. Definitely not in college.

That's a great point. Looks like a good route for them now that's it getting better or more recognition. Guess more foreign exchange student billeting is coming too.

If LV signs Miller prior to the expansion draft then they can't take another player from our roster
- CanuckDon

that was the point Nuck4U was making... which I didn't realize until he brought up the point...

He would, but that's not the way you phrased it. You said they can choose him. They can't. But they can sign him which would then mean he's a player taken from the Canucks.

Semantics really. I was just trying to wind up Nuck4U. He always has open-ended statements that arent necessarily true. So. He's an easy target

- LeftCoaster

Except he was pointing out something most people probably didn't realize.

He's been given advice for months now and I don't think he cares, he's just something we have to put up with and if the thread goes dead for hours it is what it is.
- A_SteamingLombardi

watching the conversation i don't think anyone can call it 'advice'... more like a lot of personal insults...

This is a good reason to be cautious when picking players from the USHL. I agree that American hockey is getting better, but would hope that Benning is looking at ALL options and not focusing in one area.

Yup it was. That's why you trust the people in their position to make the right decision. Same as some people sitting at home on their computers saying they could do a better job then JB.

I was cruising through just the top 20 scorers in the league for people I recognize that have been drafted or are now free agents. There wasn't a lot of players but they are becoming more frequent thanks to kids going to college more often. Griffen Molino was in the top 20 back in 2014.

Has this ever been confirmed ? Or is this just something the fanbase has concocted to give benning a pass on taking a local boy over more skilled options ?

Yeah but the ones barking the loudest were the ones screaming that we needed JV back then.

I for one said to draft JV and so did Lefty although he is at the top of the mountain screaming what a mistake.

He was advertised as exactly as what this team needed . Fuk the BPA . We needed a player that wasn't a big pu$$ie like the rest of the team had been like for years.

How do you stop an 18 year old from becoming a town drunk. Get over it .

He is nt the only top 10 player take a million dollars and g spend it n booze and broads.

It's not like we don't have enough female doging going on in here but now we have to add about who we drafted and wh we could have had.

I think the bigger stat and question is why all the know it all posters are not working in the Canucks front office?
