Yeah but the ones barking the loudest were the ones screaming that we needed JV back then.
I for one said to draft JV and so did Lefty although he is at the top of the mountain screaming what a mistake.
He was advertised as exactly as what this team needed . Fuk the BPA . We needed a player that wasn't a big pu$$ie like the rest of the team had been like for years.
How do you stop an 18 year old from becoming a town drunk. Get over it .
He is nt the only top 10 player take a million dollars and g spend it n booze and broads.
Itt's not like we don't have enough female doging going on in here but now we have to add about who we drafted and wh we could have had.
I think the bigger stat and question is why all the know it all posters and nt working in the Canucks front office? - VANTEL
hindsight is 20/20. Anyone saying we should have got anyone else other than Virtanen is just being a female dog. I remember this entire thread was pumped on Virtanen. He fit the bill. Anyone saying we "should" have picked Ehlers or Nylander can go pound sand.

Our drafting record.
I wouldn't worry too much though because once we draft in June and it is not to their liking we probably won't see them again for two years |

yeah exactly they can say that now, knowing that Ehlers and Nylander are having success. But back then, if NUx would have chosen either of those players, the sh&tstorm would have been epic. We were(& still are) a soft team that need more players that fit the JV style/grit/hitters. Ehlers and Nylander have zero of those characteristics, they're fairly small, extremely soft euros, people would have lost their SH^T!!!! |

I feel like more than anything this pick had less to do with appeasing ownership and more to do with appeasing a fanbase ...Canuck fans wanted less of the turn the other cheek soft player and more of an iggy/Trevor type guy |

I hope the Canucks go NCAA heavy for multiple reasons:
1) The best scouts the team has are based in the USA
2) American hockey is growing, the depth is better than ever and arguably comparable with Canada now, but it's entirely possible that the NHL is still adjusting to that reality. Take advantage of that market value with more Gaudette/Lockwood picks in the mid rounds. Like Detroit did with Euros back when the draft was CHL heavy.
3) College environment just seems better for development, more practice/workout time, less games, lower chance of a prospect suffering a major injury, etc.
Only risk is that the Canucks are a Canadian team so there's always that worry about getting Vesey'd by some kid who wants to play closer to home or doesn't want to play in Canada. - Nucker101
I thought Gradin was their best scout. Best track record anyway...

on a roster full of softer players, the fanbase would have cried if we had picked a smaller framed scoring forward. |

Sure. My original post was really on players and options for the Canucks for next season. I only mentioned expansion draft as one of them will be gone. People are used to entry draft so using BPA term sets off different mind set. The Vegas expansion draft is complicated because of the categories players fall under.
If Vegas were to approach their options for Canucks they could take someone by position like Sbisa or an RFA forward like Boucher or Guance. Other option is qualified exposed forward like DD. But out of them on options Miller seems to be above that so why phrased it as BPA. Plus he would jump at taking a contract if offered by them.
Anyway people don't seem too concerned there as all are expendable. Besides pre-expansion trades could take place. The focus is on entry draft. Developing players. Waiting for vets to retire or get traded. |

I deleted my post. I think its easier to expose a D right now than it is a forward. I think Sbisa is ultimately the one who gets picked, although if it were Gaunce I would be ok with it. |

Okay, not sure what you mean by that? They will do a 7F 3D protection. Hutton, Tree, Stecher are exempt players. So that leaves Edler, Tanev, Guddy and Sbisa among top D left to protect. Need to choose 3. |

lol Sorry, I haven't finished my morning cup of coffee. For the Canucks, I think best case scenario is that we lose a D man, as we seem to have a few too many mediocre ones at the moment. That's what I meant |

Lol okay. Well choice is on Vegas. Canucks have options to do side deals to ward off Vegas from other exposed players. So guess they could say have at it on the D exposed.
You know Vegas could take anyone Canucks have rights to that is not protected or exempt such as in the minors like Pedan. Some people think he's good. Maybe Vegas does. It's a "wack a mole" on the options. |

6' 200lbs, 81 points in Erie this year, 5pts in 4 gms so far in the playoffs. This is his 4th full season there. He doubled his point product this year to last. Its hard to tell with Erie cus they're so stacked, numbers can be a bit deceiving. I'm hoping to see an Erie playoff game soon, i'll let you know more if possible.

This isn't fair, there were a lot of people clamoring to draft either Ehlers or Nylander, unfortunately I wasn't one of them though. I didn't know enough about Jake's game or his history, thus I wanted him.
I, unlike others around here, will own that mistake though. I make mistakes but I'll admit I made them. Probably should have gone with the higher skill-set. Which is where I'll always lean now. |

Stop spreading your lies. A discussion is not about arguing. I guess you fail to see that as you either mock or dictate what you want. |

Like who? Edler and Hansen, who else has he produced from Europe in the past ten years? I haven't researched it so I'm curious. |

lol it is fair lefty... Give me 5 posters, pre-draft, who were on the Ehlers or Nylander train prior to Jake being drafted. You would be hard-pressed to name 5...
Secondly - why was is it a mistake? Jake is still young, there are PLENTY of 1st round picks that have been chosen in previous years that are still developing in the minors. Anthony Mantha just started his first full year in the show this year and he was drafted in 2013. Jake was rushed, he should have never stuck with the Canucks, he certaintly can't be labeled a complete bust yet until we know what we have in him. Give it 2 or 3 more years before we label him a complete bust. |
