I want to run with Markstrom next year as I don't think we have anything to lose. ie. we will suck either way. He was brilliant not to long ago and I think we should give him a real opportunity to be the starter and not keep him in Miller's shadow. If he busts? Oh well, better draft pick. That being said I do want a decent vet around to play 30 games.
- CanuckDon

so you are thinking have Markstrom 1 and Bachman 2? Demko as the first call up and have Demko/Gartieg run in Utica? It will be nice to have that extra 6 million cap space to play around with in Miller's absence.

Boeser is the only prospect we have that I am not worried about...he is more intelligent and driven than the rest of them combined. I'd be shocked if he isn't a stud for a long time

how come no one has put Molino into next years line up?

Who then?
- manvanfan

I don't know which goalies are UFA's this summer...but decent vet backups are a dime a dozen so it shouldn't be an area of concern. Bachman was doing a good job supporting Demko in the minors so I'd prefer to see him down there.

That wouldn't be the end of the world but I'd prefer a better/ more proven backup to Bachman. I like Bachman mentoring Demko

I am surprised that 14 teams were in the mix to sign the kid given his pedestrian numbers...Benning compared him to Hansen so who knows? Perhaps he could be more than a depth signing for Utica.

Lots of suitable options. We just need a reasonably stable backup to play 25-30 games.

14 teams usually aren't in for depth signings. There has to be something to his game that could translate into the NHL.

As good as that sounds, I think the same scenario thats been happening here with Miller/Markstrom will happen down in Utica if Bachman is there. Without the injury/call-ups Bachman would have had the majority of starts, and I feel like it would continue next season to a max of 50/50 split

you saw that 9 out of 31 of those goalies haven't played a game this year in the nhl.
14 have played more then 10 games.

the top 10 will probably get more then 1.5 per season. So going for a cheap back up that leaves us with 4 goalies?

Slim pickings Donna!

Why can't Benning tell Green that Demko has to get at least 65% of the starts? Or tell him he is your starting goalie next year? It's a developmental team.

What is your point? You think tiny little Bachman the career AHL goalie is the best option for the Canucks next year? I believe we can and will do better. Debating over our back up goalie is way to boring to continue so I am moving on. Megna and Bachman suck

edit.

http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ts/pdisplay.php?pid=95392

I mean he is 29 and has played 45 games in the NHL. Our roster is going to be insanely young next season and I think having at least stable goaltending would be beneficial. I can't see Benning planning to do a full tank before the season starts but you never know I guess

The same reason why he couldn't get Willie to split the starts

its what people do on these boards. Boeser is a 1st linger winger, 30 goal potential, 70 point potential character player. You didn't know? That is just his floor too, his ceiling is much higher

I don't like the fact that we are behaving more and more like leaf fan .

It would probably be the plan at the outset, like Markstrom getting 30+ starts this year, but things happen. I'd just have the preference Demko is undisputed #1 there, thats just me though

1. league minimum, cheap flyer on a guy who has skill and potential upside that no one got to see this season... due to all the injuries. let him come in with a fresh start and a full camp to prove himself
2. JV hasn't done anything to get the benefit of the doubt. Showed up out of shape and when he went down had a lot of trouble and took a lot of time to start "learning". I feel the guy is too much work mentally. He doesn't have the drive, it appears, to do the daily work to get better.

I want a top 6 forward under 26 to sign for Van for under 3 million a year.

for sure, that would mean they are tanking from the start. I just question whether that is beneficial for the young prospects. Having AHL goaltending throughout the season. We will be bad either way

Then you have to draft him.
