So....people now have issues with Russians and French Canadians (BTW isn't Toews' background is partly French Canadian)?

Any other groups we'd like to criticize today?

- DarthKane

Moms french canadian and i'm pretty sure toews speaks french fluently, as i vaguely remember him giving some interviews in french at the bell center

I would also like to criticize those lazy americans for not winning a single damn game in the world cup

I believe Toews was quoted as saying something along the lines of "if we expect to flip a switch for the playoffs after the way we've been playing, we've got another thing coming"....

pfft! Toews, what does that cap killer care what happens to the TEAM?

Yes and that's the reason I brought it up.

The game is so fast and you have to make split-second decisions. I feel like the time you take messing with the helmet, is just enough time to throw off your game.

I don't know, just something I've noticed since he's been in the lineup.

And just to be clear, I really like the guy and want him to stay in the lineup. I just think that could be messing with him--even if it's on a subconscious level.

Is there a difference in helmet technology from the NCAA to the NHL level?

Most do, but I think they passed that rule where if you're 18 now, you can go to the visor--but I'm not sure if that extends to NCAA.

Just spitballing here. I mean its only been a week for the kid. But maybe it sits differently on the noggin. Should be the same strap though.

Totally agree.

I was theorizing that the constant helmet adjusting could have an effect on his game.

Like any equipment issue, if its bothering you, it could throw your game off. That's all I was saying.

Nothing wrong with that. I'd take a new helmet for Easter from my mom and I'm 31.

Drouin was never, ever available - especially in return for TT of all people. Yzerman knows a hockey player when he sees one. The kid didn't like Cooper sitting him out or stapling his French Canadian ass to the bench so he went home for awhile while his idiot agent tried to power play it with Stevie Y who told them both to get stuffed.
- RickJ

Bingo.

Drouin was available, but the price was so sky high that he was priced out of the range of any sensible GM.

I thought the kid was a talented punk. Another Alexander Daigle in the making. Boy, was I wrong. I am so glad we retained him.

Just imagine what a healthy line of Drouin-Stamkos-Kucherov will be capable of.

...simply awful perhaps.

Dear Vegas, please take TVR away from Q.

- ArlingtonRob

I really don't know what you're seeing from TVR that I'm missing. I watch every single game and the amount of times Seabrook and Hammer have made an egregious turnover or gotten burned 1v1 vastly outnumber the same # of times TVR has been exposed. Granted, 4+7 play several more minutes/game against a higher Quality of Competition, but I see TVR as a steady presence almost every night. He is a damn good option as a #6 Defender, IMO.

I thought he and Panik were the Hawk's best players. They both showed up to play last night.

I have nothing against Candians or French Canadians.....I'm actually quite envious given the current poopshow going on in America

What I am hearing in the local press is that he might not return in the regular season.

Stamkos has a ton of heart, but knees are tricky things. If I was Cooper, I would keep him sitting until next season. Even with this win, the Lighting's playoff chances are on life support. I wouldn't risk rushing Stamkos back to action just to miss the playoffs anyway.

If the Bolts do squeak in somehow, I would expect him back sometime before the second round.

I liked Panik when he was here. But this Panik doesn't resemble the one that was here. What did the Hawks put in his gatorade bottle? LOL.

Panik looked great on some nights and then was invisible on others. It looks like he has really found his game in Chicago. Good for him.

I imagine they would score a lot of goals and also give up a ton of goals. Not exactly a very Defensive-minded forward line.

Drouin still needs to work on his 2-way game - it's his one weakness, but man is that kid exciting to watch. His wheels and hands are amazing. As long as he keeps doing what he is doing, he can be a punk all he wants - just keep lighting that lamp.

Stamko's 2-way game is underrated. He worked on it alot and has improved. His backchecking is quite good now.

Kucherov is defensively solid - everyone focuses on the rifle in his stick, but his +/- and advanced stats are stupid good.

I don't think we'll see Hayden during the playoffs,or Kempney, and that will be last .time because I get the feeling he will head back to Europe. All coaches have there favorites andQ's is Tvr.Its to bad,I would like to see him in the top 4.

While I'm not a fan, I have to admit that Drouin is something else.

What really impressed me was his speed and the ability to always find another gear. He's one of those dudes that uses his shoulders well to juke/fake guys out and go around them.

His stick handling/shot/vision are superb, too.

TvR at $825,000 on a third pairing role, considering the quality of his play that is a bargain to say the least. TvR isn't the next Keith, but he's been solid and most nights better than #51. I hope Stan works out something with Vegas to the team doesn't lose TvR.

Kind of funny that i have been reading jjs blog since 09 but your post hit me me with enough thought to register and post. Always a great read as i seem to get a lot more knowledge from postings here than typical "fans".

Yes. He makes a few mistakes, but does a lot of good things. There is a reason Q plays him. Things could always be worse for the Hawks...they could be dressing 32 on a nightly basis....
