Sports are little more than entertainment, governments shouldn't be in the entertainment business. I don't want tax dollars funding full-time professional athletes. Too many people are playing the sports lottery as it is, rather than focusing on a proper education.

Amateur athletes should probably receive help when it comes to travel expenses for major competitions. Just not to the extent that anyone quits their day job to become a full time athlete. Full time athletes should be privately funded, whether by leagues or sponsorships. This isn't the 1930's, winning a sporting event doesn't prove anything about your country other than where the priorities are.

Exactly, and it sets a dangerous precedent.

So now in Canada for example can the Canadian National Baseball association sue and get the same funding and support the Canadian Hockey program? Will that make baseball better in Canada? No. I would likely just make hockey worse. Organizations should be free to distribute resources to their strengths if they see fit. That's why they have leaders and decision makers and not just accountants in charge. Communism doesn't work.

Apologies for the political post and the subsequent outfall.

In this case the strengths of US hockey is the woman's hockey program (check medal count).
If USA expects to have a good Woman's Ice Hockey team, they need to provide the players equipment and a stipend they can live on.

It's not about anything close to pay equity, they're not expecting the millions the men make overall.
- sAFETY

The men don't make "millions" playing for USA Hockey. You're mixing it up with NHL pay. The men most likely make peanuts playing for USA Hockey, too. Perhaps the men's peanuts are slightly larger (ex. $10K per player vs $6K) or it's that the men don't need those peanuts to get by (because they have NHL salaries), whereas the women do. It's hard to discuss the issue without having access to all of the numbers, and it doesn't help when people like Warren simply talk in vague terms about "pay equity" as though that ought to end discussion, rather going through an actual analysis of what women get versus what the men get and why.

The fact that it even had to go to these lengths is a historic and national embarrassment.

HOLY CRAP YES! --- He has zero concept that the top 8 in the west is over and has been for weeks. Only thing to be decided is the final top 8 standings. The rest is moot.

Can we leave the politics out of this?

I get enough of that crap everywhere else, I don't need it here.

Wanna praise or bash a politician? Then go elsewhere.

If you honestly think one is better than the other, then go ahead and keep living in your fantasy world. But keep it out of hockey forums.

I'm very confused as to how the Kings are projected 93 points when they currently have 77. Are they projected to win every game until the end of the season, or is something wrong there?
- BasedHockeyGod

Just as confused as I am at how the league will retroactively take away a point from the Coyotes seeing as they have 63 presently and his projections have them at 62. I know we are a poor franchise but come on Ek.....

Eklund knows these predictions make no sense and has been riddled with obvious errors throughout since day 1.

theory 1: he realized he can get more traffic, views and comments by being a moron. lets call this the "tanner effect".

theory 2: he is upset that his wife wasted a bunch of money on some random useless phd and wants to publicly humiliate her by publicizing her garbage work. lets call this the "divorce effect".

Yeah, saying and doing stupid things has been what is bringing home the bacon for this guy all these years. He will only change when the money stops rolling in.

I read today that men and women get paid the same money for US hockey representation. Problem is that the men are NHL guys, who get paid so much that these tournaments don't really affect them. I liken the Ladies to the CFL players. Need a job to live for the rest of the year.
