Yeah, that is absolutely true, but my criticism of that (even though I am not a hockey columnist, aka expert) is that it is clearly a waste of time to do a mock at that point anyway. People love to read it though, regardless of how accurate it might be.

Not that surprised, really. I suspect on some level, every team's fanbase overevaluates the players in their organization.

The Flyers have been a bubble team going on 5 years right now. That's not exactly a sign of an organization overflowing with talent.

I guess the real thing that bothers me why no one is going the extra mile to try to predict what will actually happen. If they're going to be wrong pretending Silfverberg will get picked, why not be wrong trying to assume Fowler gets traded or something like that.

It is just "CLICK HERE! LOOK HOW GOOD VEGAS IS!"

You can critique whatever you like. Yay internet!

I don't think sitting Vandevelde will change anything and I don't think a new coach "fixes" anything. Not with this team, as currently constituted.

I do find it funny, however, that folks complain about the poopty 4th line and when Hakstol puts a skilled, young player down there, they immediately poop their Richard over the decision.

But, that's just my opinion.

- johndewar

I think the only real thing that will make a change is improving from within.

Becoming more dynamic on the back end will likely be complete (as in Sanheim, Myers) within the next two seasons.

Adding strong positional defenders could be done this year (Hagg and Morin).

Having that kinda mix on defense takes a ton of pressure off of the forwards and allows for a more flowing transition game.

Now from a forwards stand point we have a good core that needs better support.. this is less of a slam dunk, but Oskar Lindblom has the potential to be a top 6 winger and eventually a top PP guy. Adding just Lindblom to the roster next year and at the very least makes our #2 PP better. There is a very real chance you see a PP consisting of Konecny, Couts, Lindblom up front with Provy and Sanheim on the back end. That will be the best #2 PP we have had in years from a personnel stand point.

After that we have a handful of guys in the middle and bottom 6 range, but with Rubtsov you have the makings of a #2 center. You also cant forget about Laughton.

There is a ton of internal potential that could manifest very quickly which will help improve this team.

I think there are a number of reasonable criticisms that can be levied against Hakstol that are fair. What I enjoy the most is the invented fantasy criticism of Hakstol and his systems being an issue. From the same source who claims that the AHL head coach has no systems, and even to the point of stating that the AHL team has no breakout system. I think there is common denominator there. Especially when those criticizing a coaches system couldn't tell you what their system is, or any other hockey system.
I've heard the line complaints all season long, and it's been absurd. There is no question that having Konecny on the 4th line is not ideal, and I personally don't agree with it, but I understand it. There seems to be a culture of criticizing the coach for anything and everything on here, and I'll use the same term to describe it, it's BS. Coaches handle young players the way they do for a reason.

- MJL

Except that he is not the only common denominator. Plenty of people who follow the Flyers and the NHL in general have echoed similar statements (guys who probably watch way more hockey than you or I).

Its not exactly an unpopular opinion to think Hak is among the top 2 or 3 worst coaches in the NHL.

I keep forgetting about Flipper...

So theres a real possibility that next year you see a top 9 that consists of

Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couts, Flip, Konecny, Lindblom, and Weal/Cousins

The Flyers have a 1st, 2nd, two 3rds and three 4ths.

What would you need to offer Vegas to take MacDonald? Is it such a terrible idea to offer Laughton or some picks I what people call a lack luster draft?

Just spit balling out loud as I don't know what is right plan.

I would like to see next season:

Provorov
Gudas
Sanheim
Morin
Gostisbehere
Hagg

Manning 6/7 swingman

If Sanheim needs a little more time in the AHL and I move MacDonald then maybe I try to resign Del Zotto cheap or look at a cheap UFA.

Is that terrible?

Is it that bad of an idea?

I am asking because I don't know. I mean Chicago used a prospect to move Bickell. If you can get Vecchione signed does that allow you to maybe make a move with Laughton.

I like Laughton but I am not sure what his upside is. Giroux is here long term. Couturier is long term. Rubstov seems to have same skill set as Laughton but more offensive upside.

I laugh because like 90% of your trade proposals include trading Laughton. Retained salary should be enough to do it.

I don't think they should trade any assets to get rid of AMac, unless they are doing it to keep Vegas from selecting someone like Laughton/Cousins/Raffl/Stolarz

I think if we can try to sign or look at another top 4 Dman in free agency or trade to help these young guys develop, hopefully on a short term deal which is not easy to do. I just think thats a lot of inexperience on the back end where there will be a lot of ups n downs.

There's no reason to....just demote him. We won't need the cap space we aren't contending anytime in his contract
