What % of salary would you be willing to retain? And what asset/pick would you be comfortable letting go along with Amac?
- arichardson22

I'd be far more willing to retain salary than to give up a high draft asset. If they retain half, that cap space gained can cover two players + on an ELC deal. I don't like retained salary deals, but they have to make some room for players when they're ready.

Sam Morin was 18 when he signed his ELC on Sept. 17, 2013. A player signed at 18 is waiver exempt for 6 years or 80 NHL games played. As of this Sept, Morin is waiver exempt for 2 more years. Clock is ticking.

Yeah, MJL is using the goalie standard for a skater.

Samuel Morin Waivers
Exemption Determination

11 GP in second season: No

Stands by for the reason why I was wrong to assume Sam Morin played defense

Two of their four mock drafts had Silfverberg going to Vegas.
- Feanor

its not so crazy of a thought. Unless Anaheim makes a trade they stand to lose someone good. they have Lindholm, Vatanen, Fowler and Bieksa (NMC) on defense to choose from. there is talk of going 8 FD which means 4 forwards being protected with Perry, Getzlaf and Kesler as automatics with NMC. that leaves 2 spots between Rakell and Silfverberg. so it figures they lose Silfverberg or one of Lindholm, Vatanen, or Fowler who will be lost. Obviously they still have time to make a trade

Im not a fan at all of intentional turnovers. Things like dump and change drive me nuts. In a possession based game you should want to maintain possession as much as possible, but when you are alone in the neutral zone and are being hounded... dump the (frank)ing puck lol.
- jak521

I LOVED how Forsberg would circle back and allow the rest of the team to change. he rarely, if ever, would just dump the puck and change

Nah, it's completely crazy. Bieska will be bought out if he won't waive. Silfverberg is one of their best players.

It would be like if there was another ED in 2019 and the Flyers lost Couturier for nothing by refusing to buy out the last year of MacDonald's contract (if he had an NMC).

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of retained salary deals, but when you have this many d prospect guys knocking on the door (who will be on ELCs) then I think it can be helpful and work out. Between now and when his contract ends, only players that I see us keeping on the current roster are (UFAS): Simmonds. (RFAS): TK, Provy, Ghost, and Cousins. Not considering possible FA signings between now and then, it's doable to retain.

this Teams will not just let one of their core, skilled players get plucked for nothing

I just think there are much bigger issues if we are worried about his waiver eligibility in 2 years

I'm sure they are just going by who is on the roster right now. a lot can happen between now and the draft but they aren't assuming that.

Yeah, that is absolutely true, but my criticism of that (even though I am not a hockey columnist, aka expert) is that it is clearly a waste of time to do a mock at that point anyway. People love to read it though, regardless of how accurate it might be.

The TSN trade guys think Anaheim will move Fowler if they can't come to a verbal agreement for a extension to be signed on July 1st. If they can, then they'll move Vatanen. But they'll still need to buy out Bieska or get him to waive so they can protect Manson, who is a very important young RHD for them

I think you're probably right. If he can't make it full time in the NHL by then, we're looking at a bust.

For sure. Bieksa is replaceable, especially with how well Montour is playing for them. A buyout will only leave them with a $1.33M cap hit for 2 yrs. More than worth it.
