A whole lot of guys on this team should be looking in the mirror when it comes to effort and performance this season. - BiggE
Effort this year is very far down the list for me |

I understand your main point. I would remove Barber as an example, though. He won the Jack Adams his first year of coaching the Flyers, had been the head coach of the Calder Cup winning Phantoms and had 3+ seasons as an NHL assistant and five full seasons and one partial season as an AHL head coach to his credit.
Barber's situation was different. The players tuned him out in year two because 1) he was a yeller who didn't soft-pedal anything behind closed doors, 2) he wasn't a top X-and-O guy. He coached largely on emotion like old-school coaches and his main message was "if it's not going well, work harder", and 3) as a former NHL star who was basically coached in systems where the Flyers top offensive players were allowed to figure things out on their own on the power play -- not even Shero structured that aspect -- he didn't believe in practicing the power play.
At the AHL level, players had to listen to him. Ask Vaclav Prospal or Ruslan Fedotenko about Barber from their Phantoms days -- both credit him staying on their back with tough love (because he really did care about his players, and it wasn't being a hardass just for its own sake) with helping them to advance to the NHL level and stay once they got there. - bmeltzer
Yes, now that I think about it, I absolutely remember Barber winning the Jack Adams trophy very clearly but I've never seen a coach get turned inside out so quickly. And no I don't blame Mark Recchi for that whole thing. I'm glad you see my point but even so, Hitch came in and changed the structure. This isn't being naive, we've had two Cup winning coaches come in and make clear changes. With Berube getting fired and Hakstol taking over, I don't see the differences between the two outside of Berube being a meathead.
Did Bill Barber coach Tampa or did I dream that up? If so he's the only one of the four that went on to manage a bench. |

Okay, so I haven't read the comments but more so heard about them from a buddy. Did Steve Mason openly blame the team for the Jets loss? I mean, he has every right to feel this way because it's true but was this said through the media? Also, did Ghost call out the heart of the team and use Brandon Manning as an example as the way the team should play? First of all Manning sucks! It's good to finally see him actually win a fight but the league hates that dude right now, so he's likely to be fighting for awhile whether he likes it or not due to the McDavid stuff. Last Ghost shouldn't say anything. Ghost can produce offensively but my god is he lost in the defensive zone and much weaker than everyone else physically. - SuperSchennBros
Thahaha
Nobody on any other team gives a flying (frank) about what Manning and McDavid have going on |

TK on the 4th line is not going to kill his growth like Laughton's growth learning a role in the A is hurting his. - Konalover
Is it just Laughton who's being ruined in the AHL, or are Hagg, Morin and Leier also being ruined down there? |

So it was funny to see the talking heads on ESPN did a mock draft for LV and out of the 4 only 1 of them had a Flyer being taken by LV, and that one was Raffl... |

Not that surprised, really. I suspect on some level, every team's fanbase overevaluates the players in their organization.
The Flyers have been a bubble team going on 5 years right now. That's not exactly a sign of an organization overflowing with talent. |

Since a Flyer HAS to be taken, that really doesn't make much sense. |

My first try with lottery simulator we got the 1st. 2nd try we got the 3rd overall. And 3rd try we got the 2nd overall. Mark my words...The Flyers will end up with a top 3 pick this draft. |

Most likely, and some won't recognize that Stevens did a lot of the ground work here of building the team up and moving it forward. |

Agree...It looks like they cherry picked what they felt were the top 23 players, not the full list LV will pick...they also don't consider salary cap numbers or trades that might happen...looks more like creating journalism from non-news...outside of looking at the standings, I should know better than looking there for anything useful. |

I know Patrick seems to be the top guy but at 2 or 3 I really like Vilardi the center from Windsor. |

Does anyone think that coming off this injury it might hurt Raffl's chances of being selected?
Just curious. |

No, but my reasoning may differ from others... when you think of the two other guys we've been discussing heavily as the taken flyer (Read, Neuvy), they've been injured just as much as Raffl. |

It could. You have to think they are getting full medical reports for the players they are thinking about taking.
Not really that I care who we lose this time. |

Speaking of injury concerns, has there been any concern with Patrick's time missed ? Has it hurt him going #1 at all? I know he missed a decent amount of the season but I truly haven't heard if it's impacted scouts ratings. |

I said it the other day if Morin and Sanheim can make the jump (Hagg as well)... You could go with something liek
Provy-Gudas
Ghost-Morin
Sanheim-Manning
Hagg - jak521
This.
I'm ready to see the kids. I guess Hextall/Holmgren hinted recently that next season you will see a few more rookies. I hope they hold true to this and not default to more "over-cooking" in the AHL since its the safe move. I'm more of the belief that if a guy is going to make it in the NHL, he will overcome this idea of being brought up too soon. However, its anybody's guess if Luke Schenn for instance would've developed further if he wasn't thrown in as an 18 yr old.
With Gostisbehere in particular you could tell he processed the game at an NHL level and actually performed better with the Flyers vs Phantoms. I feel this could be the case with Hagg, Sanheim, and possibly Morin. They may thrive with a more structured NHL system than a somewhat flawed offensive oriented system with Phantoms. |

I still believe it will either be Read or Weise taken.
I think that can help in multiple ways and are on deals that are manageable for the expansion team.

Last I saw and read was he is back healthy and producing.
Guess if he makes it rest of year without any issues it will be less of concern. |
