It's going to be pure bliss when we get one of those NHL coaches who never scratch young players and never make any lineup decisions I disagree with.

And the restaurant down the road from me has a Free Beer Tomorrow sign, so that'll be great too.

We need one of those top 5 NHL coaches who do everything perfectly and not a bush league college coach in here.

1) Mason didn't say anything that was too far out of the ordinary except he talked about the offensive side of the puck (mentioning how little Hutchinson had played and all their injuries on D) not being aggressive enough) as well as his own end of the ice. He didn't absolve himself either, saying he felt he needed at least one more clutch save.

2) Manning is passable as a six or a seven. The issue is the Flyers have too many D-men you could say that about. One thing he absolutely does do is give 100% and back down from nobody. Ghost was saying more guys need that moxie, and he wasn't wrong to say it.

- bmeltzer

I, as stated said heard about the comments through a friend but not the player himself but IF a player such as Ghost does question the heart of the team, I'm not so sure Ghost is the guy I want to hear fonthe questioning. Ghost himself has been better this month for one month. I'll never question his ability with the puck but I'm hoping he can continue to work on his game away fro it. I hold my breath when Ghost is in the defensive zone or even rushes heading towards our goaltender. Sometimes Ghost has the ability to give out freebies to guys like Taylor Hall.

I did think Mason kinda slagged the team's effort a little after the Jets game and if I recall, didn't Voracek disagree with him in the press about that?

I don't know, maybe.

A whole lot of guys on this team should be looking in the mirror when it comes to effort and performance this season.

I've questioned a lot of Hak's lineup decisions as well, but they must be done for good reasons that I can't see. Hak is not going to be fired, so there's really no reason to get too worried about it. He's been brought in hand picked by Hexy to guide the team through this transition where the youth gradually take on core spots.

The bigger worry I have going into next year is the plan for goaltending. I hope the plan isn't for Neuvy and Stollie to try and carry the load, because Neuvy goes down and it's all on Stollie. Assuming we'll be even younger next year, the team will need a strong backbone of tending. I realize we can't go long term big budget, but I'd still feel more comfortable with Mase on say a 2 year deal (although I expect that doesn't match what he wanted so here we are..)

Hope the team wins out this season even if they don't make it. We'll get a decent player in the first regardless, so no reason for the tank..

Has there been any more news on Vecchione and where he's going? One thing that worried me is that I read he's looking to play centre. We def need him elsewhere.

I am guilty for not speaking up when Hakstol does something I do like but I do feel like for the one decision I really like that he made, he'll make three decisions I don't agree with. Waiting too long to pull that goalie. The long string of games he played Neuvirth, even if Neuvirth didn't play well enough to earn the next start. The random line combinations. I don't mind a young player being scratched for a game but three games is too long, especially when the team is having trouble scoring and this particular player can spark offense. Watching Bellemare and Vandevelde remain a constant combination, while being over used. Both of which just aren't that good. I don't understand anyone who thinks a Streit/Gostisbehere pair would ever be a good idea at any point of a game and/or season.

What we have to hope is that somehow moving forward in the near future, out of the current defenseman, that only Gudas, Gostisbehere and Provorov remain. I'm okay with Manning as a part time 6/7 defenseman. Hopefully a number of the young prospects are ready to make that jump.

You are making a mountain out of a mole hill....

He simply acknowledged the heart of one of his teammates and said they should all emulate that mentality.. Nothing there.

No complaining about the coach! Or the GM! Or the players!

To be honest, it's god's fault

Actually, it's ok to complain about the players, but only under two circumstances:

1. You only talk about their lack of effort
2. You list all of their good qualities first

I've complained plenty about both. I'm just not so naive that I think replacing one or both of them would result in everything being different or better.

It was in how the question was phrased: "Steve Mason called the team's effort out last night in Winnipeg, how do you respond?" elicits a different response than "Steve Mason said the Jets weren't tested enough last night and that he, too, needed to make a couple more clutch saves. How do you respond?"

The first, questioning effort, puts Jake on the defensive, and he can only disagree and say everyone was trying their hardest.

The latter, critiquing performance, produces something along the lines of "100 percent. We needed to generate more pressure against them. Mase did his part, but we needed to play better as a team."

These are two different ways of summarizing Mason's comments, but the first provokes a more colorful and dramatic quote of disagreement while the latter, although more precisely accurate, elicits cliches.

You could also say "no offense" before commenting. That always seems to work for me.
