If Drouin was on the block last year, shame on Murray
- homiedclown

He was definitely on the block. The trade was canceled by Yzerman at the last minute because he thought he wasn't getting enough back.

I feel like this needs to be said again to the people who think Jack needs to shoot more. He leads the league with 4.04 SOG per game. .11 more than Burns and .15 more than Ovechkin. 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

I got a lot of hate 4 years ago when I said Hedman was going to be special

Some even said Myers was better

reality, Hedman may be the best all around d man in the game today

- homiedclown

Hedman took 5 seasons to get it together, at the rate Risto is going, he'll end up better than Hedman by that point in his career.

I still think since Risto's suspension the D appears to be activating more frequently into the O zone, and pinching more liberally once the Sabres are in.

I don't know why it took Risto's supsension to change the cautious play at the blue line, because I think Risto's game lends itself to this type of play more than it does to a 'stay at home defender" style.

And any one of you can take the next step in this line of thinking .....

Just read it.

The title is click bait worthy, without question, but the overall point that the team isn't good enough yet is on target.

It's a bad title but he's not wrong. A lot of people just assumed he'd be enough to cover up the defensive issues. He can't play 60 mins and 5 positions

Old news. Think we all know that a team can't win with one superstar (if team make up is sub par).

It makes little sense why they changed the defense style of play with Risto out when it absolutely would benefit him, unless the coaching staff FINALLY realized how they were playing defense was dumb.

If they go back to the former style of defensive play with Risto comes back, fire the entire coaching staff.

I think they ask him to play this style because might be easier to sustain physically over 27mins a night 82 games a year

There's a part of me that wonders how this season would have gone had they not started off on a such a bad foot losing him the day before the season opener.

Seeing Eichel on the power play with a little time and space has me wishing it was 2005-2006 again to see how much more damage he would be doing without all the nonsense that is being let go by the officials.

I don't wonder that

they were close enough at their "break" and folded when they could have made some noise

Maybe so, but that is still dumb.

Play him 24 minutes a night with the style they have been playing since he was out and I believe he would be more effective.

Which brings us back to the question of: why is it that he needs that much ice time in the first place? They seem to be doing ok without him getting any ice time right now. You mean to tell me that reducing his time by 3-4 mins per night would be that detrimental to the team?

Need I also point out that it seems like since the mid point in the season or so, he hit a bit of a wall. If I'm remembering correctly, weren't his advanced stats quite a bit better earlier in the season than they are now?

The way he creates space and gains the zone he would've crushed it
