It's not about that. We were talking about future leadership. Who has the qualities to be that. For a young core going forward he will be one of them.
This is based on tracking him from draft and how he's trending and developing in making this team. It's not a reach. Many players with higher profile billings, before even entering the league, get pegged as future leaders for their teams.
So take it as speculation or observation and theorizing. More will be revealed in time. - Nuck4U
The timing for BO being captain is too soon. |

This is Bo freaking Horvat not some Calgary scrub like the coke smurf or Bennet. Bo has been a leader since his preschool days |

who takes over in 15 months when Henrik retires? We don't exactly have any other options - CanuckDon
Well you have 15 months to find an option ...i just think it might be foolish to put all that on a young player .... |

Virtanen is certainly saying the right things...he mentioned that competition will be steep with Boucher, Goblin and Boeser so he needs to have the best summer of his life training and improving his conditioning. Time will tell whether or not he takes it serious. - CanuckDon
Another sign he's realized there is serious competition. If he wants to stand out he has to bring a power forward game. He will work hard I believe to prove that.
What may hold him back is his hockey IQ. Like how long it will take for him to get how to play at a higher level and consistently. |

Mcdavid....Crosby....Horvat has greater leadership instincts than those two in my opinion. and he will be named captain 3 or 4 years after those two. He is a big boy and will be fine.
edit. he will be 23 when he is named captain. he ain't some clueless kid |

Serious question...
How many of you think Torts was thrilled to inherit Henrik as captain? IMO the incompatibility of the leadership structure he inherited is why he failed here. - DrChristianTroy
Torts was talking up his new players like he was the luckiest man in the universe and praised the Sedins as elie players/leaders. It was awkward even... but it seemed like he really believed he could squeeze more out of this team than AV and felt fortunate.... and then Torts did what Torts does best, counter his good attributes and turn into a train wreck. I'll assume it happens eventually in Columbus.

As of now i must agree. 15mths is far down the road yet.
Lots can happen between now & then. If BO is ready fine. |

I'm not eager. Someone spoke of who replaces Hank when he retires. Then most believe a kid should be rushed into to captaincy. - Nighthawk
There were flames fans who wanted to trade gio and name monahan captain once upon a time ...I don't get the rush ...I mean it worked so well for Landy in Colorado |

A player like JV like has to learn the adjustments needed to be a pro.
He has a mans body but behind in maturity & hockey IQ.
A Smart player is a student of the game. Just ask Sid.
Talent alone only goes so far & the NHL has many more wash outs than success stories if only talent mattered. The list is so long its not worth starting one. |

I think Bo & Gudbrandson would be good captain material, do they need to name a C as soon as Hank is done...no, they can rotate the alternate Captains for a couple seasons.
It's not like this team will be competing for the cup in the next 3 seasons. |

There's a reason Bieksa was one of the most hated guys in the league for a 2 year stretch. I was on board.... until he totally female doged out against ferland.... Bieksa is all about the fame. - Crazybagoham
He did it the entire run in 2011... I forget the quotes now but made no shortage of posts about it back during the playoffs that year..."Rene's haircut", "Recchi is too old", "Thomas is showing cracks, should of had that one", he had stuff to say about the Hawks players and Sharks players as well... everyone was laughing at his Rodney Dangerfield routine... I just saw a guy putting himself first when ever there was a camera/mic around... he was always that way... it's all funny til you lose a cup...

So how would you spin it if he called someone that? - VanHockeyGuy
i wouldn't spin anything... if I thought he was being unfair toward someone, I'd tell him the same thing.
I just don't get why anyone would go after another Nux fan like that... he puts up his thoughts on the team. i might not agree with them or I might... but i'm not gonna tell everyone to boycott the guy...
Fans should throw out their ideas and we can discuss them or debate them... |

That post and conversation you replied to was on BB and if he had leadership qualities.
As for Bo. Well it will be year 4 of his NHL career. He should be able to handle it by then.
If not, depends on who's left among the older group. Not much there. Maybe Guddy but then how do you do that and take It a way later to give to Bo.
So it's probably a lock for 2018-2019 season that Bo gets the C; unless something drastic happens in player movement. |

Leadership is leading the way by setting the examples in many ways.
Players follow leaders naturally. Annointing a player with the C is only the final act.
It has nothing to with stats or popularity & everything to do with standing above the rest taking a team to greater heights that only leaders can do.
Nobody needs a letter to be a leader but the Captain does run the team by setting down expectations & accountability. Handling the media is the most thankless aspect but its necessary sad to say. |
