It's so bizarre. Garth got halfway through a proper rebuild and went "Well, close enough."

Team should be way better than this.

I like what Doug Weight has done behind the bench, though. Gotta get rid of his "Andy from The Office" look.

- BINGO!

He's the antithesis of Milbury.

Milbury was a gun-slingin', asset-movin' sonuvabitch.

Snow is the NHL GM equivalent of a hoarder. He just wants to sit on all his eggs until they hatch and are guaranteed to all reach their ceiling. Then when they don't because that's not how it works, he looks like a dope.

edit: I didn't catch your last line Can we call him "The Nard-Doug"?

Ok now that this season is over (thank God) we can start concentrating at the tasks at hand. For one firing GArth Snow. That should be done as soon as the STanley Cup is hoisted up by whatever team. Second finding a new coaches. Time for a re haul. Three signing and Tavares and promising him the world. Then the draft and then some trades.

I just can not beleive what I saw last night. This team looks beyond horrible and they need a facelift. Again the defense looked lost and without Greiss it would have been a hundred times worse. Also when Josh Bailey scores the only goal you know there is no way you were winning. Islanders are slow and seem to not care. I dont even know if they know they are in a playoff race but it seems they dont care. Power play is atrocious, 5 on 5 they are atrocious, they take some real stupid penalties as well. They are passing way to much or when they shgoot they wait until someone is literally right in front of them. Clutterbuck is non existant, Nelson forgot had to play the sport. Hickey is lost and half of his defense team mates as well. I dont know what happened to this team but it seems they just gave up. Pulock should have been here months ag. JAck Capuano should have been fired in the first month. The list goes on and on with this team. All I know they have taken one giant leap backwards and that falls on the GM at this point

he is money, wish we had a guy that could do that. Jt has been close to terrible considering his talent. remember when he would get the puck and make guys look dumb and score clutch goals? he needs a bounce back year, and heres my prediction the isles will win their next 5 and get back in only to lose the last few and miss by a point, just to (frank) with us
- Upstate_isles

You want Kucherov on the ice with the game on the line. He is a stud. JT has not been good this year. JT needs a better RW than Bailey, but JT has had way too many turnovers this year and he needs to learn how to play better D.

Wasn't he another guy that GArth was supposedly going after??

I have no doubt that Snow wanted him, but I don't think Yzerman ever once considered moving him. He's clearly the best of the Triplets.

Doug doesn't have a lot to work with on defense. Hamonic's been terrible this year, and Hickey/Seidenberg/Mayfield/Pelech isn't exactly a desirable group of defensemen to round out your defensive lineup with. I do happen to think de Haan has had a solid year though. Nothing flashy, but he's been consistently reliable.

Unfortunately, DeHaan will be left exposed in the expansion draft. McPhee will scoop him up in NY minute.

At this juncture I don't think it's really logical to assume who will be available/protected in the draft. The fact that Snow could simply send a pick to McPhee in return for not taking someone or taking a specific player is a big wildcard.

If I were Snow I'd offer to trade Hickey and a pick in return for McPhee selecting Clutterbuck.

Garth brought in Halak, Leddy, and Boychuk and he seemed to stop. He cannot finish the job. Keeping Cappy all these years was just brutal. The Grabo and Kulemin signing really hurt. They are too up and down to give them long term contracts.

I like Doug, but Isles need to clean house. The owners need to hit a homerun with the president of Hockey Ops job and they need to do it quickly. They had enough time interviewing people.

I thought at one time they were having a hard time signing him or something like that.

Would be great to move Clutterbuck and Bailey this offseason.

Damn you Bailey for making us lose last night. Oh wait he was only guy that scored.
But in all seriousness guys - so frustrating that Islanders just lack any type of urgency to win. They can elevate game against against Rags and Pens but then just go to sleep against Boston and Nashville.
Im getting sick of the THEY TIRED excuse. they made their bed instead of getting a nice early season lead in standings like Habs and Rags.
Btw, Islanders actually travel the fewest miles to games in league. Oh and btw, we are losing at home every game now. WTF.

So not its Boston, Tampa and CAROLINA in hunt while we just Lay down.

There was concern but they worked it out. He's signed for two more years after this season and then is still an RFA. He's going to be in Tampa for a long time, he's only 23.

I honestly feel they signed Clutterbuck because he is close to John Tavares. I think they are trying to make John as happy as possible

Do not know how I missed Nelson? It has to be another GM. No way Garth can do all this work.

Clutterbuck raked them over the coals with that deal. He's got the worst contract on the team. Boychuk's deal will be a big issue in the not-so-distant future too. 5 years left at $6M/per and he hasn't played a full season without missing more than a small handful of games since he's been an Islander. Slow too.

MAn I forgot about Boychuck deal. All we can hope for with him is that he stays healthy. I mean he has been some what decent when he plays. Better than Hickey for sure.

id expose Hickey before DeHaan. While I love Hickey, DeHaan still getting better and has better size.

Putting aside Duchene as that did not seem like it was happening, I still think it was a huge mistake not to make any deals at the deadline. It sends a lousy signal to the players and the fans. Garth needed to come up with something.

You can't pin the Islanders defensive woes on the defensemen only. If you watched the Preds last night in their own zone they were excellent. Worked as a unit of five keeping the Islanders to the outside and limiting their rebound opportunities. When someone was beat or out of position there was someone there backing them up. Also i have to say the forwards were busting their ass on the back check as well.
This isn't going to change unless the whole defensive structure and culture is changed.
The Islanders were out classed last night and their best player again was Greiss.
