Q also wants to show Hayden, Kempny, Kero, Schmaltz, the kids in Rockfish that you have to be disciplined in the show - especially in the tournament - can't be taking stupid penalties then, for sure.

A teaching moment with a larger audience than just #38.

Agreed. I'm old enough to remember a guy named Vermette got benched and came back to score a playoff OT game winner.

Q makes some asinine moves, but things always seem to work out in the end.

Remember Vermette at wing? ... Hawks struggling at center, need a guy to come in, play 200 feet and win faceoffs. Bowman goes and gets best available for such demand and Q slots him at wing.

Two months later Hawks win Cup.

If I looked up and saw Crawford skating on the third line not sure I'd be shocked. I think Q just gets bored.

It's a message to the officials prior to the playoffs. Q's letting them know he will not tolerate that behavior from his team. (Whether he believes the calls are right or not, as he was obviously upset about the Kruger call from the bench)

The entire team has been "so-so" Since the Avs game.

Singling out Hartman with public comments and a benching is just pure stupidity.

You have some fire in you today

I agree the team has been average the last few games, but I really don't think this is that big of a deal, and I would doubt that Hartman is taking it all that hard. If this affects him that much, then sitting him is the perfect thing to do. Otherwise, he just watches a game or two from the box and we carry on.

Yes, I am pretty fired up not gonna lie. I wanted the team to bounce back after that bad loss. Now I'm doubting they will because of all the moving parts in the lineup.

Not the time to be icing an inferior lineup just to prove a point/teach someone a lesson. We need 2 pts. We need wins. We need to wrap up this division above all else. Q seems to have forgotten that.

Q's treatment/deployment of Vermette was equally stupid.

Its no surprise that once Vermette was actually given a legit opportunity to hold down the C position with the same linemates for more than 1 game that he played the way he did in the WCF and SCF. I'll still never know what Q was thinking putting him on the wing.....

5-1 lightning

Clearly, if Hartman was playing we'd win 8-0

Hartman's interview after the game made it clear he knew he had messed up badly. Not sure he has any question why he is being benched, and he knows it wasn't for bad play.

So I can't decide if this is going to make Bettman spit out his drink or make him happy. Oakland Raiders are moving to Vegas.

I think the line combinations have much less of an impact on the Hawks leaving Tampa with 2 points. IMO, it comes down to their state of mind, compete, and level of focus. Hartman had serious discipline issues in Rockford based on what I've read and this is Q laying the law down on the kid. Can't have Unsportsmanlike or Offensive Zone penalties come Round 1. The message should be received loud and clear and I am not opposed to the healthy scratch for the Rookie. I'd like to see Desjardans also healthy scratched...1) bc he is the 14th best forward the Hawks have and 2) bc he has taken an offensive zone penalty in his last 3 games played

Q hasn't forgotten anything. If it wasn't for having to clear waivers, he probably would have sent Hartman to Rockford by Greyhound bus directly from Miami for a nice 2 week vacation, so he could share a double bed with Vinny at the Red Roof Inn.

Q angry; don't f$ck with Q.

I don't think he's done anything to warrant a look at 2C. Been a good foot soldier? He's a rookie. I don't understand all the love. He play some solid D and has shown some flashes of offense. On the flip side it puts as Schmaltz back were he has shown he can produce. He will have more room to play make and less D responsibilities with Toews and Panik.
- bhawks2241

Yup, and Kero hasn't taken any stupid penalties or called the ref a fajj@t. For that he gets a shift on line 2. Fear not, the blender still works.

I honestly don't get the obsessing over the dumb penalties. You want a legit top 9 NHL forward capable of scoring 20 goals during a season in which he gets very little top 6 or PP minutes playing in the AHL because he committed a few dumb penalties? What about all the great plays he's made this season? They all get canceled out and don't matter anymore?

News flash: Dumb penalties aren't the only way to negatively impact your team. And there are multiple other forwards that negatively impact the team on a nightly basis more frequently than Hartman. So why aren't they going to the Red Roof Inn? Why Hartman?

IMO, it's not fair to question Coach Q anymore. I questioned him very often over the years for players like Pirri, Hayes, ect but his only error, IMO, was Nick Leddy. Leddy is a Top Pairing Defenseman in the NHL at 25 years old and already with 500 games of NHL experience. I don't think that development from 3rd pair D on the best team in the NHL to Top Pairing Dman on 26/30 teams was Garth Snow or Jack Capuano's doing. Q was hard on Leddy, and I wish he would've been retained (damn salary cap!!)....but Q Keith, Hammer and Seabrook made Leddy into what he is today. Other than that, I think that the development and nightly usage of Hartman, Schmaltz and Kero as rookies speaks for itself.

Not the Red Roof Inn, but which bottom-6 players haven't spent games in the pressbox?

Kruger, Hossa (I guess) - the rest have all healthily missed games for one reason or another - defenders, too (except for the big 3 and Oduya so far).

This is no big deal: a teaching moment, Hartman will probably be skating against Pittsburgh on Wednesday nite.

Well its definitely fair because nobody is perfect. Q is not mistake free, despite being by far and away the best coach in the league and a future HOFer. And when he does make what i think are mistakes, I'll female dog about it. Especially if I'm bored and have nothing better to do

Pardon me, but is this the same board that's been complaining about the hocks play in the last 3 games and you'lls are wondering why Q's messing with the lines?
