I think Bellemare's age and new contract make him a strong candidate to not be picked. Why would LV take him at $1.45mil per when they could have a younger player for half the cost?

I would not protect Bellemare. I would be overjoyed if LV took one of Raffl, Read, Weise, Bellemare or MacDonald.

An expansion team will want to have some veterans in a leadership role who can take on some of the hard minutes on the PK, and play well defensively. Bellemare is a player who fits that mold, and his contract is not that expensive. I agree with all but Raffl. I don't want to lose him.

Doubtful.

If I'm Vegas there isn't anything worth taking from the Flyers.

It's my understanding that they have to take at least one player from each team.

Don't worry, if they don't make it, they'll just credit it towards next year's season tickets. You don't expect them to actually ever give you money back, do you?

They aren't billing until they clinch a spot.

That was just team negative taking another shot at the Flyers roster.

I read the playoff bill and laughed that they wasted the money sending it out at all.

Small sample size but I like what I've seen from Weal in his call up. He might be a player Vegas might take a chance on.
- MJL

Weal is an RFA.

He's a UFA per Capfriendly.

Doesn't protect him from being selected.

HockeyBuzz's Cap Central has him as RFA, but I'm sure it's UFA.

Regardless, why would Vegas select a UFA?

They get a few days exclusive negotiation?

That doesn't sound right. Sounds like a waste of a "draft pick".

"ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that one of the expansion draft rules will see the Las Vegas club, which is yet to announce its name, will be given a 48-hour window in which they’re able to negotiate with free agents, both restricted and unrestricted, who have gone unprotected by their respective teams."

Good information. Based on that, they probably wouldn't select Weal.

Emperor Filonius

What about a couple games ago? Sid not only intentionally sacked ROR with his stick. Identical to what Lucic did last year and then the slash to Methot. Crosby is a dirty player but the NHL lacks backbone to actually enforce their rules. If you make them money the rules dont apply to you

They should let Las Vegas trade its expansion picks.

OK. So in your scenario, Vegas:
- Does not bother negotiating with Weal, who was left unprotected
- Decides not to even offer a contract, since he's a UFA
- Lets him walk after the draft

And the thought process there is that the Flyers literally have nobody of value to Vegas?

Ok so here we go another possibility

-Negotiate with him and think you can get the deal done in the window for less than letting him hit the market.
- Find out you weren't exactly right and he hits the market.
- He walks...
