Yup, he looks good in these clips, but I really haven't seen much of this from him this current season and with the NHL seeming to become more and more a young mans league these days, I'm just not sure how his game will hold up as he nears 30.
All this being said, I have no problem with him back on the team next year. However, if, and it's only an if, they feel they can upgrade for roughly the same cap hit, I would hope they do so.
My only real argument was with MJL stating that he knows what type of player Raffl is, until he returns from his injury and starts to play a little better than he has for much of this season, that statement is an opinion, not fact. - BiggE
Raffl has been a Flyers for what, 4 seasons now? To state than any informed fan couldn't know what kind of player Raffl is at this point, is asinine. The entire team has pretty much had a poor season, does that mean we don't know what any of them are as players?

Same, but I worry a little regarding Myers recent spat of concussions. - hockeylover
UH OH watch out the brain specialist on this board think it is no cause for concern that this kid had two concussions within 3 months.
I do hope he makes it through the playoffs without a 3rd one.
I repeat I hope this kid can come through an excel for us in a coupla years.
2 so quick and our franchise's history with concussions merely has me nervous for the kid.
I don't know about laughton man. I'm not high on him at all - Just5
My bet Laughton is that he is a throw in on a deal to bring in a real NHL player with a track record of success. Not one of of "learning a new role" in the A.

Dan Carcillo was one of the best stickhandlers in team history because this happened once:
Define equal to Raffl. Is it equal to the Raffl who scored 13 goals and 31 points while getting a lot of time on a line with Voracek and Giroux in 15-16 when he also managed to stay healthy? Or equal to the Raffl who has been frequently injured this year, was a healthy scratch a couple of time and has only 11 points in 52 games, and in the combined seasons of 13-14, 14-15 and this season has only dressed (mainly due to injury) in 187 of 239 games?
Raffl will turn 29 next year and isn't the big, powerful skater type who will usually be able to play well into his 30s. I think we've seen the best of him at this point, and the quality of his play will likely decline from this point forward.
I'm not going to go out and scan the roster of every team to answer your question, life is too short, but I'm willing to bet that a suitable replacement could be found if needed. - BiggE
Exactly! I'm sure out of all of the teams out there we can sign/trade for a player of the caliber Raffl that made one nice power move to score a goal during the long lost streak. I'm sure we can replace all of the iterations of Raffl in summer.

Tom Bladon was better than Mark Howe, Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen and Eric Desjardins. Hell, none of them ever scored 4 goals and 8 points in one game!
They aren't going to lose anyone special nor anyone likely to be on the roster by the time they are a contender. I have no concerns whatsoever about who they lose in the ED. - BiggE
Agree.
I think Bellemare was signed to a deal to almost to make a team think about drafting him. he might be a little too much for a role in Vegas.
Weal has started to make me think. I don't think he gets taken but he has shown me some good things. to me he reminds me of Sheary. So far he has been noticeable every night.
Raffl, Laughton, Leier I have no clue. Not sure any have really done enough or have such game that a team would take a chance on them.
Read and Weise are my most likely choices to be taken. While not having that great of years they are known commodies that can play up and down the lineup. Read can play some PK and Weise did play PP before.

Yeah, but if you don't have a youtube clip to back it up, it's all moot.
Since Vecchione is 24 he can only sign a one year ELC. - Feanor
Good to know!
I had read something about him saying he wants to play THIS YEAR in the NHL and I figured they would have to burn a year to have any shot at signing him.
He will likely win the Hobey Baker this year, but i dont know a ton about him. He had a down year last year (IIRC he had some injuries) but had a 50 point sophomore season. He has league wide interest.. Its a low risk high reward move.

I hope Weal is for real (no pun intended). I've seen guys like him, who've been top AHL players, come up before and look very good for a couple of weeks or even a month and then regress back to what they are. Guys like Tim Tookey and Peter White come to mind. Hopefully he can be a better player than those 2 and be a regular for this team going forward.

re the ED: depending on who is protected, I'm guessing it's Read, Raffl or PEB, though since of none of our vets are that intriguing, I could see Vegas deciding to take a chance on a former 1st rounder like Laughton.

As in, if we pay him more than we should...maybe it will trick a team into thinking he is good?

Agreed, not concerned about who they're going to lose. Actually hoping it's a forward. They may want to look at trading a couple forwards beyond it. Especially if Weal is now in their plans for next season. As much as Hextall likes competition, some opportunities for youth need to be created on the roster.

I don't know on what basis you would class Raffl as not having done enough to be mentioned with Read and Weise. Raffl is as much of a known commodity as they are, and can play up and down the lineup.
Past three seasons
Read - 75 points in 220 NHL games
Raffl - 70 points in 201 NHL games
Weise - 66 points in 207 NHL games

I'd be mildly surprised if Laughton makes the team and even more surprised if Lyubimov re-signs, but I could certainly see them going with your top 3 lines, though I might want to flip TK and Weal.

The only real difference that might matter to Vegas is that Read has only one year left on his deal and he can play on both special team units. Other than that, you are correct.

To think there is no player out there equal or better then Raffl via trade and or signing is also asinine.
