In 17-18, I'd love to see Morin, Sanheim and Hagg in and Schultz, MDZ and AMac gone. Manning can be the 7th man. I'd be happy to eat as much of AMac's contract as needed to make it happen too since his spot will likely be taken by players on ELC's or bridge deals for the next 3 years.

MacDonald is a top 3, reliable in 3-zones defenseman according to the coach. The idea that Hakstol won't use him if he's here is crazy. I think there's a good chance he's with Provorov again as a top pair. Or he'll be saddled with Ghost. Or Sanheim. It's a real lose-lose-lose situation.

Funny to think that after that first month or so as a pair -- when MacDonald was first used with Provorov and they had a very high goals for % and poor underlying numbers -- that in every month since they've just gone down and down in goals for % and still have poor underlying numbers. They are now being outscored 40-60%, and MacDonald is neck and neck with the unreliable Gostisbehere for lowest GF% on the team, despite being paired with Provorov for most of the year. No one in the top 4 regular PKers is on the ice for more goals against/60 either. But that first month sealed the deal for Hakstol.

If you treat 2Real as the self-aware amusing source of entertainment and Andy Kaufman level dedicated Internet performer that he is, he's quite funny.

He's the best troll on this site. Hands down!

I wonder why Hakstol isn't playing the crap out of Nick Schultz? Highest GF% out of all the defenseman on the team. You omitted Provorov with also being neck and neck with Gostisbehere.

Feels like one of those days...have a game though so not until afterwards!

edit: I have tried not waiting until afterwards....never again. I think I would've been more effective if I just drank enough to pass out across the goal line

Morin has a long way to go that doesn't bode well for Sanheim.

Morin's slow progress is why Provorov was sent back to Junior this season .

Ghost is actually quite a bit below MacDonald in GF%. It's Manning who he's neck and neck with. When MacDonald plays with Provorov, they're used against other teams top players. Ghost has faced 3rd and 4th liners with 68% OZ starts and is still last on the defense in GF%.

GF% is a weird stat for you to be breaking out now, unless you are going to argue Schultz should be playing ahead of Ghost.

You mean Mononoke didn't post the full story? I don't believe it. MacDonald is ahead of Jake Voracek in GF%, 40.0% to 38.3%.

P.P.P.S.

I mean it's NOT because people like you, who defended MacDonald and the pairing like it was their job, chose to entirely ignore the putrid underlying numbers and kept pointing to their 60+% GF% or whatever it was that month. So, now that the putrid underlying numbers are still the exact same and the GF% cratered, there's no leg to stand on. GF% is often misleading. When you have awful advanced stats too, it's much less misleading. Misleading was using that GF% that first month to prop up your argument and ignoring everything else. And then ignoring GF% now. We have an entire career of data to use anyway, so this isn't worth my time. Believe what you want.

MacDonald in his renaissance season as a top pair d man, alongside a burgeoning superstar d man, has a GF% of 39% vs 38% for Gostisbehere, the defensively horrendous shutdown 1-way d-man in the midst of a nightmare season. Makes you think!

It can be as misleading as you want it to be, either in favor of or against a player. Your usage of numbers proves that. I wouldn't expect the underlying team numbers, and that's what they are, team numbers to be good with a player who is mis-used as a top pairing defenseman on a team that struggles to score at ES to a man. As I pointed out in a previous post, one of it's top paid players and offensive catalysts has a GF% of 38.3% when he's on the ice. I'm striving to get my defense of MacDonald up to the level of your criticism of the Flyers coaches, and I mean all of the coaches. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm working on it.

I'm reading up on this Michael DiPietro kid. Goalie in the upcoming draft. Isn't projected to go in the first two rounds by a lot of people but at the same time some others have him as one of the top 20 talents in the draft. One report I just read said he'll be the steal of the draft...

With two 3rd round picks and three 4th round picks this could possibly be someone worth moving up for if he's still there after 2 rounds. Never hurts hurts to add another G prospect in my eyes.
