For anyone to be a top 2C with the Canucks in 2019 they only have to beat out Sutter and or Granlund. Not really in the impossible category.
- golfingsince

This years draft class is not high end. You are right the bar is not set that high but I haven't seen any centers yet that are ready to step in now. I see guys that will start on the third line and work their way up but they are not ready now.

The same could probably be said about Dahlen and beating out Chaput for the top line wing spot . Not a high bar to beat but probably not going to happen

I agree but you can't have a Juolevi Tanev Larssen and Edler
- VANTEL

I agree, you could have
Edler Hutton
Juolevi Gudbranson
Hutton Tree
Sbisa Stetcher
In one or two years....

Because if you can get a top 6 forward for Hutton you may want to take it. Especially when Juolevi is better than Hutton
- VANTEL

Top 6 forward in what age group? Not sure Hutton has the cache to land one at this point.

Bob Mac ,C Buttons and Pierre Lebrun have all said Canucks are receiving calls on Hutton . All have said he could be moved for a top 6 forward.

You have to wait to see how it plays out

The thing is though it's not about next year. It doesn't matter if we could draft McDavid next year, he alone won't make us a contender.

Someone who can step in and contribute in 3 years, wether it be C,W, or D is all we should be aiming for. All signs point to the top prospects being available up front in the top 10. Lets select the BPA and hope he lives up to or exceeds his potential.

I know Kesler isn't given much love here, but he was selected what 23rd? It took him a few years to become an NHL regular, then he became an upper echelon forward in the league. I don't think it's unreasonable to think we can draft someone that can have that type of impact down the road.

I heard these dated rumors. They are still peddling the idea Canucks want another LE type to be a playoff team and Hutton is the guy. I don't buy it. Wouldn't want it. I also believe Sabers asked for Hutton plus for Kane deal last summer. Where they are getting this stuff.

Would Bruins move Pasternak or Jets Shieffle for Hutton? What you would want for age group. Doubt it. So I get what you are saying just don't see it.

An established player like a vet like Tanev or Edler would be a reach for a top 6. Maybe they could get a prospect who could turn into a top 6 and that would be the better move.

It means best player available, which by definition means you have to wait until you select to see who is actually still available.

I agree with a lot of this.

I will first off will say I want a top Dman but I wont be disappointed if we take a center or winger. I have said a few times we will get a good player that will add to fixing things here.

My point is pretty much what you said there is no one that will fix this turn around.I reply to posters that are adamant that we have to draft a center . There is no quick fix and we need many parts. So drafting a center is not imminent IMO.
We can do it next year.

I am starting to believe ASL that we are 3 years from being three years away.

Are you looking for a mock draft?

Maybe wait until drafting order is finalized.

Yes BB has a two way game and hits. He's better and more poised/mature then when Sven came into the Flame dudgeon. Next...?

Any chance you turn the Sedins into more of a checking line? Kinda like the transition that the Stevie Y made at the end of his career?

That statement alone shows how out of touch you are with the quality of players the Canucks have, in system as well, to say a generational talent won't lift them up.

Sedins can't check anymore. Why they need a defending plug like Chaput on their line.

Yes i can see how a generational talent cannot help.
We never had one since Bure so why think we need one at all now or later.

I agree, drafting a C is not imminent. However, if that's what is available when we select then by all means draft him.

Granlund has shown signs this year, but really he's still an unknown commodity. Sutter, for all intents and purposes won't even be here when the team is ready. That leaves Bo, so again C is another spot where we are weak positionally.

I don't object to drafting a D, I just don't want to be pigeonholed at the draft like we have been for what seems like a decade. For years, we had to draft scoring. Then size, then D.

Had we taken BPA every time we'd likely be further ahead.

Nobody said anything about lifting them up, I said make them a contender. They are a bottom 5 team, with 2 of their top scorers turning 37.

Of course, I was also out of touch at the beginning of the season when I called their opening winning streak a mirage.

The Sedins are arguably the worst defensive forwards on the roster, so no. Now if you wanna shelter them like AV did with Hodgson then sure, could help them bounceback next year, and perhaps(long shot, I know) they agree to get trade for one last shot at the cup to a team that sends a decent sized cap hit in return(basically a contract dump) as part of the package.

Less ice time so they're more fresh, but plenty of offensive zone starts.
