They could have had Halak, but Noooo.
Had to cheap out and claim a Microwave Dinner. - Byfuglien Ate Me
Actually it's not too late.
Most people think the trade deadline means you can't trade anymore, but it only means that players acquired are not eligible for the playoffs.
They could still trade for Halak, have him to at least carry the team in the playoffs, and then see put McGoalie in net in the playoffs if Andersen is not ready.
Playoff experience for the kids, even if they get eliminated in 4 games, is worth being stuck with Halak next year or buying him out in June |

Pretty bad.
It will depend on the results of the doctors checking out Andersen. If he's just missing a game or two then you suffer through it with McElhinney and probably Sparks. If not though....have to consider more extreme options.
I'm sure Eklund would love the option of the Leafs going emergency goalie hunting. The only limitation there is you can't use that guy in the playoffs. But that hardly matters if you don't make the playoffs anyways. Might have to find a team out of it and make a trade. A few pending UFA goalies that might fit the bill.
Nothing to do though until they find out how Andersen is. But, I'm not sure running with McElhinney for the remainder of the season is a realistic option if they want to maintain that playoff position. - FlareKnight
That's actually not a bad idea. With LA looking all but done, I wonder if you could get bishop for a 5th or something. Help recoup something for LA. Depending on the prognosis of Andersen.

If the leafs trade for a goaltender, wouldn't he have to go through a waiver? |

That doesn't make sense, lose the player and the player they used to trade for him... |

You can trade for whoever but that player wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs this year. |

somebody would have said that during the series with the Broons also... last ten minutes... and all - kaptaan
Well that's just a stupid comparison.
And at least the leafs showed up for game 7. Canucks didn’t bother to in the SC final |

Yeah. But it all depends on how long Andersen is out. If it's a game or 2 it might not be a big deal. Any more then that and it may get a bit interesting. |

You might not like my opinion, but I'm not the only one who isn't quite ready to roll out the red carpet for the playoffs for Toronto.
Still a lot of hockey to be played and stranger things have happened within recent memory to Toronto.
Shouldn't detract from what has been a great season for the team by any recent measure... you seem to be losing it over an opinion that isn't rose coloured as you like... |
