Wow this is like watching paint dry. Between the constant buy season tickets for next year plugs and the incredible quotes from players talking about a scenario where the Flyers can make the playoffs I'm not really sure what reality is anymore.
The Flyers have been out of it for 2 weeks now.
Defensive prospects and potential aside, until the Flyers sign a top flight offensive NHL superstar, the Flyers will lose season ticket holders and not really be in the mix as an elite team.
Examples of an NHL superstar: Crosby, McDavid, Malkin, Seguin, Kucherov, P. Kane, Tarasenko, Ovechkin, Matthews, Tavares.
Unfortunately with the salary cap most of these players are unattainable until FA status. Multi-player blockbuster deals are few and far between. |

Great we're back to Holmgren. He really has a lot to do with where Weise is playing in the current line up. - Baxter27
Could you imagine what he'd say about bob being a liability with a 7.5 million cap hit because he's injury prone or that he's great in the regular season but folds like a cheap suit during the playoffs. He flat out blew when they played the Pens a few years back |

Can't score? Howabout can't get quality chances to score, let alone sustained offensive zone pressure. |

Explain Zhitnik for Coburn, signing Briere, acquiring Biron, taking the worst team in the league to the Conference final one year later and the Cup finals 2 years after that, turning Richards into Simmonds and Schenn. Did he make mistakes? Of course, all GMs do. Was he the greatest GM of all time? No, but he was far from the worst.

When you swing for so many deals .....some will be home runs and some will be strikes. I wonder if Hextall is a little gun shy....it's not like his signings, trades and decisions have worked very well.....hopefully his drafting record makes up for it. |

Sure the negative perspective and constant complaining about Philadelphia sports teams is a thing. It's more relatable (in my opinion) to the Eagles and Phillies though. For as long as I can remember the Flyers usually field a solid team with character, work ethic mixed with high-end skill players. Even in losing seasons the Flyers seemed to put a product on the ice that was entertaining and exciting hockey. |

Dude they are not in this draft!!!
Name the player that resembles a generational talent like any of those guys from 9-13 this year.
To be clear, we in top 3 keep it. anywhere else package it for 2018 player that fits need.
So tell me mr gm wizard who is that player in the draft 9-13 who will play next year!!! - Konalover
anyone can be a great player look at joe pavelski taken in the 7th round the higher you draft the better change you have though |

Which has lead to 0 cup wins in over 30 years.
That approach doesnt work and Hexy is trying to rebuild through the draft.
Im okay with trying another approach given that they havent won squat with the old flyers approach. |

Playing tough physical hockey is gone ? Not from good teams it's not. You don't have to fight to play a physical game.

One thing about Homer is that he had balls. He didn't win every trade but he generally had a good pulse on the team and knew when changes had to be made.
I will interested to see what Hextall comes up with this off season. You know Homer would do something |

It really is a different philosophy. Hextall, it seems to me, believes that you first build a solid base through the draft and then you make deals to fill holes and perhaps a major FA signing to fill that one key need you think will get you over the top.
Time will tell if his method will be successful, but I doubt any major trades or signings happen this offseason. I think that is still at least another year away. However, I do expect at least one new face in goal next year and 2 or 3 rookies on the team when the season starts. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the assistant coaches are replaced after this season |
