Also....Morin is not ready. Several times he let guys go wide on him. - Just5
It isn't easy playing defense on that team. They're coached to let guys go wide and cede the blue line, and forwards are never in position to help defend or breakout. Guaranteed with actual talent around them and competent coaching, they look a lot better in those areas. |

Have no idea why Friedman didn't play tonight. Sucks I wanted to see him. - Just5
Hopefully Morin cracks the lineup by the time he's 30. |

Welcome aboard. Their "systems" are garbage. They just go for home run and hero plays off the rush (lob passes and chips galore), have no support anywhere on the ice, are god awful at breakouts, and are quite PP dependent. When they get those plays, they are good. When they are aren't, they look horrid. They're so talent reliant, and they're the most talented team in the league for sure. They play an anti-puck possession, regressive, outdated style of hockey. They look like they're trying to play Berube hockey.
Pens always have good coaches. Hynes....Sullivan....now Donatelli or whatever. They run the same system as their pro team, so there's consistency jumping levels. Phantoms don't play at all like Hakstol. Not even similar, with tweaks to fit personnel. Like nothing alike at all. Gordon and Cote are gems. And just think they actually didn't even have a defensemen coach last year. Those two just did it too. - Mononoke
It is glaringly obvious. What was funny was the whole broadcast the fridge was just lauding the pens systems and their style of play, because there was nothing else to watch but one dominate the other...and they've been doing it all year I think the phantoms beat them once. If I'm hextall I'm doing whatever I can to hire an assistant away to coach the phantoms. That is bs what's going on down there

You're probably right. Hagg looks damn good though and that was his first game back, he's overcooking down there |

Since Gordon and Cote are inept and their systems are garbage, when should we expect Hextall to fire them?

Dear Lord was that phantoms game depressing. They are completely outclassed on the ice and it is 100% due to coaching. The Pens systems are fantastic. They said there are 9 undrafted free agents, bunch of ECHL callups on that team and they smoked a stacked phantoms team. Phantoms try and skate the puck through people. Pens pass it as soon as they get it and move it up the ice as a 5 man unit.
Gordon's phantoms don't play anything like Hak's team or any good team. There's no support - Just5 I have seen him play a few times this year. His decision making isn't very good.To me he hasn't improved since he was on the junior national team.He treats the puck like a grenade
when he has it on his stick.Sorry to say it but he isn't a nhl defensemen.Hagg has the better shot at being ready next year. |

Hire an up and coming coach who might be part of your organization's future. Virtually all of these best coaches in the NHL were just junior coaches and AHL coaches before. So try to find the next good one, not a crap retread nursing his career. Having coaching talent in your organization is important. It's important to create consistency between your teams....to develop prospects....to create a good culture....and to possibly bring them to your pro team eventually. Treat them as coaching "prospects," if you will. You never know when you'll need 'em. Think if Hakstol goes, Gordon could get the job. That should be horrifying. Like Exorcist level. And maybe they even promote him to be a Flyers assistant for Hakstol. Who knows?
Coaching up and down this organization is definitely a concern of mine. |

I didn't realize Morin brought zero offense. 34 points in 140 AHL games? JFC that is putrid. |

Hagg has had a good bounce back year and is back on track. But I still don't like him as much as some and he has his own bad habits. Morin is still the better prospect to me. He's definitely nearing NHL readiness though to put it to the test. All 3 are.
I imagine Hagg is fighting Morin in camp next year. Sanheim is by far the best and plays a different role. |

great news guys buffalo and florida won we're getting closer to a much better draft pick - 2Real
I'm all in on the higher pick. Creates more options. I guess Hextall couldn't get scraps for Schultz, Del Zotto.. because even scraps help the long term view.

Even for you, this is a tiny bit much. Yes....you did. He's a defensive defenseman who gets zero PP time and no offensive usage. That's his role. There's no reason that scoring won't translate to make him a 15-20 point, shutdown guy or whatever at the NHL level.
Do you know how hard it is to score 5v5 as a d man? Ghost has 6 points this year there. You score 15-20 points 5v5 as a d man, you are doing very good. That's what he does. A guy named Radko Gudas scored 37 points in 149 games his first 2 AHL seasons too. |

I haven't paid attention to the minor leagues all that much. I know he's classified as a defensive defenseman. Obviously he's a big kid and they need extra time to develop. I figured he had a huge booming shot and saw some PP time. If he's only playing at even strength and on the PK then it isn't alarming. I guess the ceiling for him is a shutdown guy which would be fine if the other prospects fill their expected roles. |

If the stat page I saw is correct, Morin has 15 5v5 points. Hagg 14. Sanheim 18. Brennan 25.
Gives some perspective on how bad Morin is offensively in a no offense role. Obviously someone like Sanheim is on another level offensively 5v5 and creates an insane amount, even if the points don't always reflect it in this sample, but for a shutdown guy with average puck skills (I'm convinced playing on an NHL team will highlight his transition passing more especially), Morin holds his own. |

My list of top 5 mistakes The Flyers made. ( not in order)
Signing Bryz to that ridiculous contract and losing Bob by default
Signing Beezer over Cujo
Including Forsberg over Brindamour in the Lindros trade
Not trading Brindamour for Shanahan but later(years) trading him for Primeau
Drafting Ricci over Jagr - KINGKENZO
Congrats on completing step 1. Your well on your way
