When you have this many elite rookies you can't think too far ahead.. I'm sure some recent cup winners wish they thought through some signings a little more..

a 7 year deal for 8.5m (probably not realistic) shouldn't kill us. just like the carter and hossa deals haven't killed the hawks/kings.

the brown and gaborik deals are far more problematic for the kings. need to stay away from giving too much money to old/secondary wingers, who are likely approaching their declining years.

elite players like tavares/hossa typically perform well into their mid-thirties. average even very good players usually do not.

i think it's a long shot that he is available anyways.

Wendel was a very good player and it's a shame health failed him, but it's nice to see really elite players making marks on the Leafs history. Modernizing them.
