Devils are at least 3-4 years from contending again. Why not trade Schneider now for a top prospect and/or a future #1 (2018 or 2019). Could that be why they are playing back up goalie. |

Tatar and Fowler would require the devils to part ways with any combo of Santini, Mcleod a 1st round now or in the future, ++++. No chance Shero should piss away the Devils future for those two. |

I got a crisp five dollar bill that says not one of those guys is in a Devi's sweater next season. Anyone in on that action? - Queenie_5_hole
I mean, I'd rather trade for Vatanen than Fowler, and there's no point in adding yet another LW when you have Hall, Cammalleri, Quenneville, Wood, sometimes Henrique, sometimes Zacha, and maybe Kerfoot. But Shattenkirk should be a priority in FA. We can outspend the Rangers. Oshie I would love, but I don't think that's realistic or a good idea. He's coming off a career high, is 30 and plays a physical style that doesn't tend to age well. Then again, the Devils need RW help badly, and he's the only guy worth a poop this year.
So I'd target the ducks to trade for a defensemen, preferably Vatanen since Lindholm is a pipe dream (it does helps that the Devils picks are going to be higher than most teams and they have an excess of them). Go all in on Shattenkirk, and take a good look at Oshie since Bennett can't be your 2nd best RW next season. |

I mentioned yesterday that if the Devils could make a deal with St Louis for their first round pick and the pick they got from the Caps for Schneider it would make sense. Depending on how teams end up the Devils could potentially walk away with 3 talented guys like Owen Tippett, Mittelstadt, Foote, Valimaki or any other 1st round talent.
Someone responded that was a bad trade for the Devils. Please enlighten me with a solid reason why keeping Corey who may get us a 7 or 8th seed in the playoffs makes sense. I love the fire that Wood, Q & Blandisi bring on the ice and as they mature to have guys like Tippett or Mittelstadt coming up behind them provides a better future then getting embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs with a great goalie.
5 picks in the top 47 or mediocrity???
Get Schneider to drop the NTC if he has one

It was me and getting two mediocre picks in a mediocre draft is a poop return for an all star.

I can appreciate your opinion, I think I'm frustrated because I understand Schneider is a great goalie but don't think the rebuild will be quick enough to maximize his talent. He will be handicapped with Merrill, Prout and Lovejoy for the next 2 years and the Devils will be know as a bad team with a great goalie. Thanks for responding to my question. |

It's a weak draft, but there are still good players. I wouldn't trade Schneider for magic beans though. If you trade him you need to get a very high end prospect + a pick. Or a good young player. |

Look man, we're not winning with or without Cory. All keeping cory around does is give us a high enough draft pick every year that's just high enough to miss out on the elite talent. We gotta move him for a promising prospect and a first rounder. Tank next year and perhaps, with development and patience, we are competing for the playoffs in 2019. I think we need a new defensemen coach as well. |

You never trade a franchise goalie unless you have two of them, and you definitely never go full Vancouver. |

Even when the franchise goalie just delays the rebuild? |

I think so. Has Schneider hurt the rebuild this year? We can barely stay ahead of Arizona.
Unless someone offers something absolutely insane for him, I'd like to keep him. He's 31 and we have him tied up for 6 million for 5 more years. I'd at least see if the team takes a step forward next year before dealing him. |
