Fake teeth...I didn't say embellished

I was merely comparing that someone who is now missing the tip of a finger barely flinched to someone acting like there was a sniper in the rafters.

I thought hockey players were supposed to be the anti soccer guys?

Guess I was wrong

Have fun in the playoffs hopefully Malkin comes back for you guys...

- Stripes77

I shattered my thumb when i was in 8th grade and barely flinched. I've also gotten hit in the face while running and it knocked me over. You get hit in the face and its going to look like "a sniper in the rafters". Crosby didn't stay down on the ice. He skated to the bench to get checked out by the trainer, and was on the ice 30 seconds later, sans teeth.

Suggesting that Crosby embellished that in any way is just garbage. He literally got teeth knocked out.

Damn, that was lame, I figured you'd at least one-up me. But you are a sabres fan, not used to winning much, I should have expected that.

The Pens have half a roster on IR, and regularly absorb a constant stream of cheap shots, questionable hits, and stick work. There are no more enforcers, and everyone knows discipline is a joke. As Ryan points out, the refs don't enev bother calling slashes to the hands most of the time (which is hilarious, because if you break a guy's stick, its almost an automatic 2 minutes, but slash a guy's wrist and its OK). Why should the Pens be held to the standard of acting like choir boys, faced with what goes on every night? Ever consider that maybe Crosby has just had enough of it and is sending his own message? I never want to see anyone get injured, but I also am fine with the Penguins giving as much as they get. An eye for an eye as they say, or in this case, a finger for a tooth.

I'm not whining at all. Eichel gets hit like that and I'm driving up to Pittsburgh trying to find puppies to kick.

I just think the entire NHL system is broken from penalties to supplemental discipline.

Needs to be strict regardless.

First time its 3 games.
Second time 5 games
Third time its 10 games.
Fourth time 20 games
Fifth time year long ban.

Unless it is an act that was extreme, then it is an auto 10-15 game suspension for one and then the second time a year ban.

I just fixed the NHL.

I can almost understand Sabers fans being pissed about Risto suspension but he needed a break by all accounts and it's not like you're in the race.

The love tap to ROR's cup is getting you all worked up? He has a cup on! Him dropping to his knees is a reaction you all should be familiar with. he didn't lay on the ice in the fetal position for 10 minutes after, he counted them and moved on.. as you should.

So if Crosby gets slashed tonight and breaks a finger or wrist you'll be ok with it? Eye for an eye, right?

I'm not saying that there should have been any discipline other than a 2 minute minor, but with 2 refs watching the play, how can they not call a penalty? Oh, because it's Crosby. Same reason he didn't get a fine for his cup check on O'Reilly. Look at other guys who got the standard $5k fine for doing nothing worse than Crosby did.

I have always been under the impression that the league tells the refs to focus on certain penalties and ignore others. The focus changes by year. This year slashes that break the opponents stick are called while ones on opponents hands are usually not called and crosschecks are very rarely called. It has nothing to do with any particular player. Next year the focus may be on slashes on hands while they ignore slashes on sticks. The year after who knows .

Look, I think most people can agree the NHL is awful when it comes to dealing with this type of stuff. The Pens fans have been watching this happen to their star player since the days of Mario, then to Jagr, then to Crosby and Malkin. So we of all the fan base get it, and have been saying it for years. They need to call the intent, not the result. Was what Crosby did a penalty, absolutely it should have been. No questions asked. Has it happened to Crosby a bunch of times and is never called, you bet. Does anyone in the NHL take more abuse than Crosby on a game to game base? I would like to see someone show me. When it happens to Crosby, every other fan base calls him a cry baby. When Crosby turns around and does it, all those people calling him a cry baby, cry about it. Its hypocrisy at its finest.

I don't mind the suspension because the seasons over for us and honestly it could help us get a better draft pick. My issue is the fact that they can use this if something else happens and now he is labeled as a repeat offender, and guys like Marchand can slew foot players all the time without getting suspended. Or Gudas headhunting and never getting punished for it.

Disagree. If someone gets hurt, than that needs to be adressed, and more of a penalty/suspension needs to be applied. Saying "it happens all the time" isn't a defense. Bottom line is that this time the player lost part of his F***ing finger, and even though what Crosby did happens every game, he still should face a suspension b/c of the result.

I think you are missing my point. Year in and year out, the Pens consistently lose more man games to injury than any team in the leagues because they take a constant and unrelenting amount of abuse from teams doing everything they can to slow them down. I'd rather the league actually officiated properly and called all this stuff, but if they are unwilling to do so, I'm OK with the Penguins including Crosby protecting themselves. Maybe people will be a little more gunshy about taking runs at the Pens players if they know someone on their team is going to get smack on the wrist or one between the legs at a later point. That is the standard the league has set, and there is no reason the Pens should do any differently.
