He's pretty much 30 I think. Man, he's gonna age bad. We got lucky getting out of that contract (mostly) - walshyleafsfan
He has 8 of their 54 pp goals (about 15%) and has 28 pp points.
The teams winning percentage has increased since he arrived.
Their PP has increased the past year.
He was pretty much their MVP the year they won the cup.
He's aged well so far for them.
He hasn't been bad for them in the past two years.

Let's not get too crazy. He has 63 points on that 3rd line (and yes, lots of PP of course), he won the Cup last year and might do it again this year, especially if Crosby keeps scoring while striking the fear of castration and finger removal into the rest of the league.
But yeah - 2/3 years from now, that contract might get pretty ugly for the Pens. - 1979AD
As do most contracts come their 5 year when a player in his late 20's signs.

Big picture, that's a fair way to look at it.
Unfortunately if Kessel loses a step or two and can't produce points anymore he's completely useless on the ice and to Pitt mgmt and fans are going to be cursing the contract every moment longer they're stuck with it instead of watching game video from the 2016 playoffs and drinking champagne. - 1979AD
they could very well have 1-2 more cups between now and then.
sid and malkin have 3-4 prime years left anyways. might as well max out the cup winning years for them.
in 5-6 years pens will be in for a painful rebuild. but who cares, their future is now.

And non of that will matter....cause he was instrumental in winning them a cup and may help them win another.
Just like Kadri.....players can change and grow under the right coach and circumstances.
Oh it will matter to the guy trying to put a contending team on the ice with a 6.8m anchor on the books.
Kessel has changed and grown? Please explain. - 1979AD
Kessel has changed, he has less hair.. He has also grown around the middle. He has been bad man games this year, as I have watched many Pens games.. He has to pick it up for the playoffs for them to repeat. They need all firing on all cylinders to win.

He just needs to watch his breath and he'll be fine.

I said he can change.
The contract is what 5 more years?
They've got Malkin and Crosby for what 8 more years or so.
they may have one two years where he is not performing at his best.
This season he will end up with his 3rd highest point production of his career.
Any maybe finish a 9th year in a row with 25 plus goals (ya I know in the shortened season he had 20....but it would have easily been 25 plus).
Hardly and anchor.

This is his age 29 season. To think he would A) start his decline already or B) change his approach to, conditioning regiment, or way he plays the game moving forward is kind of silly.
Yep - 5 years after this. I predict the last 2, maybe 3 years are a disaster for Pitt's cap, but like we all know, they got a Cup already and maybe more, so it worked out for Pitt either way.
Fortunately the deal also worked out for the Leafs because they got that potentially brutal contract off the books, and Andersen/Kapanen/Rychel out of it.
