Let's not get too crazy. He has 63 points on that 3rd line (and yes, lots of PP of course), he won the Cup last year and might do it again this year, especially if Crosby keeps scoring while striking the fear of castration and finger removal into the rest of the league.

But yeah - 2/3 years from now, that contract might get pretty ugly for the Pens.

It's a smelly contract for sure, but not as bad as Kopitar (11 goals) 10 million forever, Getzlaf 14 goals, 8.25 four more year and the best one, Brown 11 goals, 5.875 mill 5 more years

Big picture, that's a fair way to look at it.

Unfortunately if Kessel loses a step or two and can't produce points anymore he's completely useless on the ice and to Pitt mgmt and fans are going to be cursing the contract every moment longer they're stuck with it instead of watching game video from the 2016 playoffs and drinking champagne.
