Garth has just gone mental against the whole penguins team (not to mention the numerous changes to the title of the blog). We get it, you don't like the penguins. But atleast try to keep your bias subtle.
At no point in the sequence of events is Guentzel a player that can be legally checked. The onus is on the hitter to deliver a clean legal check. It is really not that difficult to understand.
Was a clear-cut suspension. Reckless hit on a player who didn't have the puck. Brandon Manning got two games for a bad hit in the Stadium Series game and that was deserved, too. - bmeltzer
I've never read this guy's blog before but boy is he salty. Some objectivity would go a long way for your credibility but this guy just makes comments like he is a little fanboy that doesn't know anything about hockey. Credibility lost.
I am beginning to wonder if Garth has ever even watched a hockey game. Do I like to see a guy injured from a slash. No. The fact of the matter is, these slashes happen in every single game. The refs have let it slide for so long it has become a common practice. Do not think for a minute Garth that a Sabres player has not viciously slashed an opponent and was not penalized for it. It happens in every game and to try and state otherwise is being dishonest and naive.
Garth is showing himself to be a bigger whiner than Crosby ever was in the past. If you want to be butthurt over the Risto hit and subsequent suspension fine, but answer me this:
Was Jake Guentzel ever a player that was legal to be checked on the play?
Did Risto commit to the hit trying to anticipate? If so he owns the result of a failed anticipation that leads to a dirty hit. A player that is not dirty can lay a dirty hit, intended or not. This was a dirty hit.
Third if that hit happens to Eichel the Sabres faithful and Garth in particular would organize the mob themselves. Go cry your river elsewhere, your homerism and inability to be objective gives you no credibility and leads me to question your integrity as a regular contributor to this site.

On the suspension to Risto, I have zero problem with him being suspended. My issue is the 3 games.
Polak boards a guy face first only gets 2 Thachuk throws an elbow at someones face only gets 2, Risto times a play wrong (interference for sure) but gets 3?
This suspension is pretty much the same play that Risto got suspended for but made even more head contact but is only 2 games
That's why many Sabres fans are upset. At least the rational ones who fully expected a suspension anyway.

Inconsistency time and time again. - Stripes77
Hey Garth, you should give this guy the Sabres blog job. Rational and objective.
I could not agree more with you. The NHL wheel of discipline is maddening. My issue is not with Sabres fans a whole. You all are a good lot. My issue is with Garth and letting bias and a lack of objectivity rule his latest work. I thought 1 or 2 for Risto would have been appropriate, taking in the totality of the circumstances.
Crosby should be penalized for his shot to the jewels. No rational Pens fan is going to try to defend it. I certainly will not. Matt Cook should have been suspended 10 times over. Malkin gets away with to much. He should have received discipline for a hit versus the Jets.

I work with a few Pens fans it happens when you live in Orlando these days, not one of them will defend the shot to the jewels and you should hear the rants on Cook.

Holdy crap! Talk about homerism! The whole presence of your argument is that other players are responsible for their actions, but Pittsburgh players aren't. Utterly absurd!

Where in my post did I ever say that? Maybe you have reading comprehension issues. Are you going to deny that slashes occur unpunished in every game? If so then we need to go no further.
I stated in a later post Crosby should gave been punished for his jewel shot to ROR. I also sated Malkin gets away with to much and should have been suspended for past incidents. Garth is whining about the Risto suspension. It was a bad dirty hit. The intent may not have been dirty, but the result was. I think 3 games is a bit much, but a suspension was warranted.

It's the NHL though it's pretty expected. - Stripes77
