The 1C position is by far the hardest to play.. no one expected Matthews to keep pace with Laine for goals, but he did and he did it 5vs5 and fewer empty netters. You can't possibly compare Schiefele/Ehlers/Wheeler to Hyman/Brown/Nylander.. Laine is a great player, but Matthews does more with less.

Matthews is a complete #1 C. Just about everything you want in a number 1 C. I don’t need to see him win the calder to make me feel better about that.

I think you can make a better argument for Werenski than Laine. There's so much more to hockey than just scoring goals and offensive numbers are the only justification for voting for Laine. I think his point totals would have to be way out in front for him to win.

On the other hand, people like flashy goals and a lot of the guys who vote for this aren't much smarter than your average hockey fan.
